I have an old, mistreated cpu. Do you think it will work if pins straightened?

There aren't any pics of the pins ?

Should work. The E7400 that is in TCMcellend or whatever his name is :D was in a back of CPU's and runs great.

As long as the pins make proper contact, there is no reason why it shouldn't work. Sanding the IHS doesn't affect the die.

But I could have shocked it, ESD.

possibly yes, but unless you drag your feet over a thick carpet all day long the risk of that is also fairly low. Why don't you just give it a try?

Well there's really only one way of finding out for sure, so yeah... I'd estimate the risk of it not working (provided no pins are bent or anything like that) to be fairly low, but nevertheless there's a certain risk.
