So for my BDay, I received a total of 240$, and was wondering what GPU I should try to upgrade to.

Current specs:

PSU: 600W

CPU: i5 4670k @ 4.3 GHz

GPU: Gtx 650

Ram: 8gb

MoBo: Z87-A

Thanks!

`R9 280X or R9 290 if you can stretch you budget a tiny bit ( 10 dollars or so )

I'd wait until the 300 series from AMD and then see what you can get. Seeing as 290 prices are right on the edge of your budget with sales, the price of them will only drop once the 390 comes out. Or possibly you could get something like a 380 (if released)

DONT buy used 290s, you cant be sure if previous owner wasnt mining bitcoins on them.

And if he was? It's like people think mining GPUs are automatically shit or dead or about to die. Go ask anyone who has actually mined and bought mined-on cards for gaming. Some report issues, but most are fine. In fact, i will be recieving an R9 270 in a few days that was mined on, and I'm entirely confident that it will work with no issue.

That's a good card to get although I would personally wait until the 3xx series is released.

best to wait for new amd gpu's some prices from both sides would go down It's one of the best time to savor up those price drops.

The only issue is that the new gpu series might be coming in 2,3 months. Also there are a lot of rumors that they are gonna re-brand their 290 and 290x to the 380, 380x with the 390 being the ones with new processors architecture.

Now this are rumors but considering that it has been done before and that they have reduced funding to their development team , the rumors are probably true .

If you can wait that's great if you find a good offer on a 280x ,290 i think that you should go for it.

rebranding gpu has been done for a long time although I still advise for ts to wait for a few months unless he really need to right now or find a great deal on it.

Yeah that's probably the best thing he can do , still it's nice having an estimate on when the new gpus will be released.
