V8 or V6?

Guest Philosophy

Hey Guys! I found a guy on craigslist who wants to trade a mustang to me. He has a 2004 V6 Premium (119K Miles) or a 1996 V8 (141K Miles). He wants trade and cash for v8 or give me cash for V6. I am thinking the V6. The v8 is a automatic, the v6 is a 5 Speed. What do you think?

Hmmm, V8 would sound better but auto it's also an older car with more miles on the clock. I would say try them both and whichever you feel would be more enjoyable to drive pick that.

I like the look of the V6 much more, it is sliver with black decals (from the factory) where as the V8 is black on black (Which I dislike)

Surely age is worth considering, I wouldn't want to be driving a 19 year old car, it sounds like it'll break down frequently.

V8 for power and fun, V6 for fuel economy with only a little fun. The V8 will hold its value better(as long as the car hasn't been abused), but if you are like me and want a challenge, making that a turbo 6 would be interesting(because V8's are too mainstream lol).

I currently drive a 19 year old car, which is making me want the 04, The 94-04 is my favorite body style for mustang, seconded by the 05-14.

I would say the v6 as it has less miles and is newer.

If I can turbo a 1996 Chevy Lumina, I can turbo anything, got that grandma car near 300HP xD...

I agree the V6 does look better. The general consensus seems to be the V6 and i assume it works out cheaper since its just straight cash vs part ex.

Hmm that's a tough one.

I would probably go for the V8. 96 is the first year of the 4.6L SOHC motors instead of the 5L motors, which is good because the 4.6 is a more reliable engine. The auto is certainly a drag but I still think with the V8 it will be a more fun car than the V6 5-speed model.

3.8 is reliable, I'd know. :P

coming from a family with a a 15+ mustangs in the past, I like how the 2004 looks a whole lot better. after the fox, those mustangs didnt appeal to me until 2003. if memory is correct, its the 4.6 v8? the 2 valve? its sounds nice as hell.

but id go with the v6. My sister has a 2003 v6 5 speed blacked out. its not the fastest thing in the world, but its fun and it can spin them just fine. that higher miles scares me also.

Why do you need a Mustang then? Lol. But yeah there really isn't a bad choice with this one, as each car isn't bad and they have their own perks, but I personally would go for the V6 since it will get more MPG and is more of a challenge to make fast(the V8 is already fast, where is the fun in that? lol).

V6 clearly.

Newer, cheaper, safer, less miles, and its stick.

Automatic sports cars are a waste of everyone's time.

I'm not saying that the 3.8 is a bad engine, I'm just saying that the 4.6l modular motor is an excellent engine, and the extra miles on it really shouldn't be fretted about too much.

Cause, The Lumina is like having a 300HP Boulder xD Ugly and Fast... The mustang can be going 1 MPH and look amazing though.
