New Nvidia Driver and Why I Actually Like it.

PaulKolby

Well i have a Lenovo y50 with a 4gb 860m in it. and before the new driver that disabled overclocking, my gpu would OCCASIONALLY  dip the frame rate down to like 15 fps for like a second ON BATTERY witch was kind of annoying. I concluded it only happened when i looked at like an explosion or something hugely demanding and i thought that the battery couldn't supply enough power for that second of really demanding stuff. But, after the driver update that disabled overclocking for mobile maxwell it fixed my issue. So, like will smith, i ain't even mad.

P.S. i didnt have an overclock on before or anything.

Just thought i would let you guys know something good came at least for me with the new driver

347.52 actually helped me a lot:

Here are some results with average, minimum and maximum framerates.

I did these benchmarks while casually playing The Forest. I have a PNY XLR8 Performance Edition GTX 750 TI, the fastest GTX 750 TI @ 1333 Mhz. Settings were 1920x1080 Ultra Maximum settings. I chose to play The Forest because it was the most graphically intensive game I have that doesn't max out VRAM. I am running an I7-3770 with 16 GB RAM and Kingston V300 SSD, so all bottlenecks are on the graphic card.

I took 13 one minute long samples over the course of an hour.

Total Averages for 347.52 - Avg: 31.7 - Min: 22.667 - Max: 38.6

Average framerate increased by 1.568, or +5.2%.

Average Minimum framerate increased by 4.524, or +24.9%.

Average Maximum framerate increased by 4.6, or +13.5%.

This was actually pretty interesting, I wonder if all driver updates affect performance that much, or if it's just that The Forest got a bigger than average boost. Some websites online said that for a sample size of 14 out of 60 minutes, the margin of error could be up to 20%. Even then, minimum framerates improved beyond doubt.

I am conducting some polls regarding your opinion of large technology companies. I would appreciate your response.

Gaming on a laptop is one thing, but on battery?

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Yeah battery gaming is a bad idea. If you got some benefit... then congratz? I guess? But gaming on battery is still a no-no. Even "battery boost" still just adjusts settings in-game and induces a FPS lock to keep things running longer. It's not exactly "amazing".

Anyway, you should be annoyed. 860Ms with modded vBIOS have been able to overclock like crazy, even up to around stock 780Ms in power, depending on how well you managed to cool one. Look at what these guys managed to do in Firestrike http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/2994950and http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3571765

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
