I always hear that Intel CPUs are faster than AMD CPUs for gaming. Like an I5 4xxx is faster than FX 8xxx. But why is it faster?

It's not. Something Intel is better is that their CPU runs cooler and more efficiently, while AMD CPUs are cheaper.

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong if I read previous posts, however I looked it up a while ago and the difference was like 5-10 more FPS on Intel. Which is good, but not a reason to stay away from AMD. If you want a high end CPU like the i7, I recommend Intel, for budget I recommend AMD, however the G3258 from Intel is pretty good too for budget builds.

Mainly because they have stronger cores/threads and games usually average about 3 cores used .

Stronger IPC and single threaded performance makes them shine in games.

Game devs are lazy , just look at dying light.

@harrynowl has showed that the STP of the FX chips is really low.

Thats one of the reasons the intel chips are faster at games.

I can honestly say they are, I was running an FM2 APU (a-10 5700) with a gtx 660, and when I switched to a 4690k I noticed that I could now push the graphics card a lot harder and had better results.

Intels strong side is much better architecture of CPU - it is planned, designed and built better than AMDs CPUs. As a result Intel just destroys AND in single threaded tasks, and is better in multitasking too. Now after this sentence AMD fans will start to yell, that is a lie and AMD is great at multitasking and Intel is not that good, but bare with me for thsi one:

Allmost every benchmark in 98% cases will show, that Intels 4 core i5 is much better in single threaded tests, but a little behind in multi threaded tests, but it still manages not to be very far behind with 4 cores against 8 cores on AMD FX 8XXX. Intel cores is so effective, that it gives it allmost 50% performance gain over AMDs core per core.

Intel has better single core performance and benefits greatly from this in games.

Its because their cores, when looked at individually are much fatser, Which is the kind of performance that matters.

Mainly because they have stronger cores/threads and games usually average about 3 cores used .

Stronger IPC and single threaded performance makes them shine in games.

-snip-

Games use single core performence, Intel has it, AMD uses more cores and better multithreaded performence.

The FX 8350 is actually Faster than the 4690k but not in games

I realize that Intel uses stronger/faster cores but why are the cores faster?

Check the cinebench R15 score.

Oh no.. Not .14. Do we all seem to forget that the 4690K is clocked 500mhz slower than the 8350?
