Basically will it be able to play games on ultra with a 34 inch lg qhd (2k) ultra wide curved monitor yes or no?

yup, but you wont be able to play on ultra with only a 970...

It will do fine at 1440p, most games will run at max or at least close. But there will still be some where you need to turn down some settings. That's why I got 2 970s for 1440p.
