I'm running out of space on my current HDD and was thinking it'd probably be a good idea to buy a HDD just for my games. I was thinking of buying the WD Caviar Blue. Is there another HDD that you'd recommend instead or would I be just fine with that HDD?

Seagate Barracudas are also good. I'd go with whichever is cheaper.

IMO Hitachi seem to have a better record then Seagate so I would get those. WD are okay too

I use a single 1TB WD Blue drive for all my games. It seems to perform well enough, haven't tried using WD Black or Velociraptor drives yet.

Thanks everyone. I was mainly looking at the blues because i heard they were pretty good for the price. I was a little worried about whether or not a dedicated HDD for games would need a "good" HDD but it seems that they don't.

Well......

I'm a huge proponent of having your most played games on an SSD, and moving them off. Many games will load much faster on an SSD. BF3/4 for example. But, theres not much difference in Mechanical HDDs these days.

I'm hoping to later upgrade to an SSD but I'm unsure of how I'm going to transfer the data from my old HDD. I was thinking i might just start anew with an old SSD and keep my old HDD as it is. Also I'm unsure of what size SSD I would need. I'm considering a 256 but I'm not sure if that's too big or too small.

Hi there @EpIcPoNaGe!

WD Blue is a very good drive indeed, but for gaming I would recommend WD Black, which is a performance oriented drive with capacity up to 4TB and 5 years limited warranty. It has additional build-in features like dynamic cache (which optimizes the cache allocation) and no touch ramp technology (the recording head never touches the disk) that will give you faster loading times in gaming. Here's a link if you want to check it out:

Cheers! :)
