Best program for recording gameplay?

I remember recording some Borderlands The Pre-Sequel gameplay, and the video was HIGHLY pixelated. Not quite sure if it was the program or my game settings, but I want to get back into capturing some in-game footage and editing again.

 

What are some programs that I can use to do so? I'm on an AMD GPU, so something like NVIDIA's shadowplay is out of reach for me.
