I love Craigslist

Looking for help with getting random projects started to keep myself entertained when I have no extra spending money, I put an ad on Craigslist asking for any free computers or computer components. I wasn't really expecting many replies, if any. Well, from just 2 guys I got all this. The 3 black PCs on the left are all complete and fully functional, just need to get a cleaning, reapply thermal paste, and install Linux. The smaller Dell Optiplex is mostly there, just needs RAM, PSU, and HDD. The only thing I paid cashey-money for was the BCS Black Series mobo with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU, and that was because the guy is attending University, so I told him to put it towards "tuition". I think he understood what I really meant by "tuition". You know... Liquid in"tuition"......... I'm talking about booze people.... :P

Something tells me that I'm going to have a bitchin from-scratch custom PC build in the future....

Yeah, I know it's all older stuff, but I think I may keep reposting the ad for a couple months and see what else I can snag.  :D

You guys have no idea how hard it is to touch type while drunk

Oh, I studied English Literature/Creative Writing at University. I know aaaalllll about being plastered and trying to type. :-P

Damn son.

I just had another guy email me this morning saying he has 3 towers with mobos and PSUs that I can have (and maybe a few other small things). Why didn't I think of doing this sooner!?!?!

I scored again today! No complete towers, but still some good gear. Total I pulled in:

- 3 mobos (the LGA775 mobo looks like it needs some capacitors replaced)

- 3 CPUs: 2.2GHz Celeron, 2.2GHz Pentium 4, 2.8GHz Pentium D

- 2 Heatsinks

- 3 40GB IDE HDDs

- 1 NIC

- GeForce4 MX440 GPU

- A random SCSI PCI card

- 2 FDDs and 1 ODD (all three junk).

- Bunch of more cables.

 

At this point I think I have 90% of what I need for my cluster build. :-)

I should have been gathering stuff for years.......

Got another score yesterday. This is mostly even older stuff. I haven't gone through everything yet, but there is one spare mobo that's a Socket 7. Pretty excited to get everything cataloged and get some older systems up and running. :)
