Asus Xonar DSX on linux

I would like to use linux for a while, see how it goes as a main daily driver but it is useless for me as the audio drivers don't support the DSX by default. This (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=111625) seems to work but I have no idea how to do it, and I also didn't have any luck googling it. Does anyone know how to do this?

it's been a while since I've used mint and I only use optical out on integrated or a USB DAC.

if mint uses pulse audio, install pavucontrol from synaptic.

open pulse audio volume control, set the default audio device on the output tab, and make sure the program is sending it to the correct device on the playback tab.

the program has to be sending audio to show up in that tab.

it might also help to disable all devices not used in the configuration tab.

this is all I've ever had to do, so I hope it's helpful.

Will work for electronic components and parts
