Hi , I want to ask for 3d modeling and rendering which one is better AMD or Nvidia . From your help guys i build my pc and its having z97 board with i5 thanks guys for your help. But now last part of GPU is left i was planning to buy R9 270x so decide to take some suggestions on that . and is 650w power supply is enough or i have to buy new big one. Please let me know if anyother is better buy can't go beyond of these can't spend a sing penny more.

3d modeling and rendering requires a professional GPU like the Quadro or FirePro

consumer GPUs are not advised

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I would say Nvidia but depends on what software.. Some software is optimized for AMD and others for Nvidia.

As long as the psu is decent, 650w would already be overkill for a 270x.

depeneds on the 3d modelling software

No, it doesn't. If someone is doing 3D work specific enough to need a WS card, they would probably already know that.

Moving thread to Graphics Cards.

maybe for cheap it may work

certain modeling software may give problems if consumer GPU was used with graphical distortion

otherwise most software will use CUDA or OpenCL/OpenGL for rendering so he need to pick the correct GPU for the job

There aren't that many renderers that primarily use the gpu in the first place. Even fewer use specifically cuda and the like. Many gpu renderers don't support consumer grade graphics cards 'out of the box' and would need modding to work. Most cards including consumer grade cards are fine for workspace rendering which would be fine for most people doing 3d work. Basically, recommending a WS card when it isn't clearly called for is silly.

That is defiantly not true. a $300 consumer GPU will do ALOT better then a $300 quadro or firepro

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

ok maybe i still noob in rendering jobs and what hardware to use

but i will take your word for it.

thanks for the info

It depends on the usage. There's been very little info on what the OP is actually doing and any recommendation of what kind of card to use would be one that isn't properly informed.

It helps to know how limited the number of programs for gpu rendering are when I've spent too many hours trying to find a way to utilize my gpu to assist in 'long' 3d renders.

True. But in most cases a quadro/firepro won't do much for you until you get into the highercost cards like $500+

No.. It usually first comes down to whether a WS card is necessary.

from MY experience a $300 workstation card didn't make a difference vs a $300 consumer card for rendering. You are entitled to your own opinion but my experience is in most cases a $300 consumer card will do better with rendering then a WS card will.

That probably means you weren't using any WS card features and/or whatever you were rendering wasn't very or at all dependent on the gpu.

This is Intel vs AMD, but it's also applicable to Nvidia
