I want to get a 4k monitor (not now probably I can wait a few months). And I cant really decide between G-sync or IPS since i'm not gonna be getting new Asus 4k IPS G-sync monitor because it'll be at least 1500 dollars. I'm thinking of buying one 4k G-sync if there is a good TN panel producting 10-Bit colors. I dont really care about the viewing angles of IPS.So is there any difference between those panels aside from the 10-bit colors and viewing angles? And what are your suggestions?

Bare in mind that unless you have a quadro or a firepro you won't be able to use 10-bit colour even if the display is capable of it. An IPS panel WILL have better colour reproduction. If the price isn't much higher, I'd go g-sync, but if it's more than 100$ more I'd just get the ips screen.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I dont have a firepro or a quadro.I'll use it for gaming. So can you tell me a little bit about what is color reproduction?

It will be better at reproducing the colors that the computer instructs it to display.

10-bit on TN is just marketing.

A TN panel in the price range of a 4K Gsync will be decent enough that you won't tell the difference unless you actively try. Why the hell do you think that after spending all day bitching about TN panels and going on about IPS, Linus goes home to game on an ROG Swift? Good TNs are more than decent enough for gaming and gsync will add that level of smoothness that will give current gen hardware that extra amount of life at 4K.

If I were you I'd wait a year or more to get a 4k monitor. Prices will only drop over time. Better products will release. I currently have a 1080p monitor and plan to only upgrade to gsync 4k but only when GPU's can push them better. So I'll prolly be waiting 3+ generations until that happens

I agree with you. Linus tested an 8-bit monitor achieving 10 bit colors with some technology I dont remember its name but he said that you can barely tell the difference. And I dont even know if i'll be able to.

I will wait for gtx 980's price drop when AMD releases their cards. And then i'll get 2 of those in sli.

That was fast , thanks. But is there any more differences between TN and IPS aside from 10 bit colors and viewing angles?

Yes!  I think Linus might have a video on this...  but briefly, TN panels can change pixel colors faster, which means faster refresh rates and less ghosting.  Ghosting isn't a huge issue for any panel type now days, but its still present.  try dragging a text box around the screen and you'll notice you can't read the text when its moving (if you have IPS, VA, etc).  Even a cheap TN panel will have less ghosting, and the best (ROG Swift) has pretty much none at all (in Linus' review of the ROG swift, he says he can read the text just fine while dragging it around).

Some people don't notice the difference between 60hz and 120hz+, but I think most experienced gamers can notice.  I've got a 60hz MVA monitor and a 75hz IPS monitor, and I can notice a subtle difference.

I'm gonna play at 4k , I really dont expect nothing more than 60 fps and you can be sure i'll even crank up anti aliasing if i get 60fps, 40-45 is enough for me and once it has a gsync linus said when its 40 fps on a gsync monitor it feels like 60. I dont need a 120+hz monitor. And i'm not a competetive player I like playing singleplayer games. RPG, Third person I sometimes play battlefield multiplayer but as I said I'm not a competetive player so really no need for a monitor thats above 60 hz.

If you want 4k & g-sync you could always go with the 60Hz Acer XB280hk. Currently the only 4k g-sync monitor out. It is a TN but has been getting good reviews and sits around the $750-800 price point.

Colour reproduction is simply the way colours are shown. better colour reproduction means colours will look closer to the original. Having 10-bit colour means that you get a lot more shades of each colour, but to get that you need a quadro as well as a display that supports it. On IPS displays colours look better and closer to the original.

I just bought the Acer XB280HK 4k gsync TN panel and compared to my Asus PB287Q 4k non gsync, the gaming experience is much better.
