LG G3 root and rom

BuntzenB

If I were you I would backup the stock ROM before you flash a custom ROM. You can find the stock ROM on the Internet but the entire process is pretty lengthy. Restoring a backup via TWRP or other custom recovery is pretty easy in comparison.

Thanks, will do.

Just follow this root method will work.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776198

If your firmware version is too new, then you'll have to use this root method.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906

What this will do is root your phone and install the Superuser app (although you should download the SuperSU app from the Play Store). You'll still be on stock and you'll still receive notifications from Sprint on updates for your phone. DO NOT download those updates. They can *potentially* brick your phone and/or cause you to lose root.

There are, however, stock ROMs that have the automated Sprint updates disabled. So flash this ROM instead.

neither of these worked. I also tried ioroot and purpledrake and those didnt work either. any help any1?

Hm, then your firmware may be too new to be rooted. In which case, you'll have to revert back to older firmware. I had to do the same thing. It's easy to do, but very tedious and time consuming.

Check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089

The 2nd method - the TOT method - is much easier, from my experience anyways. So try that first.

Hi,

So I'm getting the G3 tomorrow and I wish to be prepared to root and install a custom rom (really thinking about cyanogenmod). I am getting the sprint US version (LS990). I am new to the whole smartphone game so any help is very appreciated. First, how should I go about rooting it. And second what is the deal with cyanogenmod 12 and is our supported for my phone and how do I install it and what is it and stuff. Plus what are some recommended apps, recommended roms, keyboards, cool 1440p backgrounds, camera apps(that support raw), and other things that you think I should get or need.

Thanks do much for all help. (Also I already read the how to root and rom plus faqs but it wasn't so specific or helpful for me)

when ever i bought some lg products i was ASTONISHED!

first i got a 3D monitor from LG which was REALLY awesome.

then i got another LG monitor, non-3D, LED and man its gorgeous!

then i got OGPro, the G2, then G3 and i can tell you, i ALWAYS went for the stock launcher based roms.

there are pretty neat stock lg launcher based roms, which you should try for sure. there are so many small things very neatly implemented all over the LG UI it feels very refined and well worked on.

and btw, its coming from someone who likes Samsung more!

Well, I believe you said you were rooted already, yes? If so, there's no need to revert back to stock using TOT method or KDZ method or anything. Either way, the G3 comes preinstalled with Android 4.4 KitKat. If you want to stick with stock, I do recommend that you flash a modified stock ROM. It's the same exact ROM, except the bloatware is removed and you won't be getting any OTA updates from Sprint (this is a good thing).

Oh. That ROM I linked is a 4.4.2 ROM, since it's based on stock, and that's what stock is on. But yes, installing it will remove the "Sprintness." And no, you will not lose root if you already have it.

I know you said you want to stay on stock and all, but AOSP based ROMs are so nice.
