Buy an after market cooler for GTX 480 vs New card

badcable

New cooler would be Under 100 which would drastically improve cooling and noise. Or just wait for the R9 300 to come out and get a 380? i dont do anything gpu taxing except CSGO which it doesnt have problems running at 2560

Keep that GPU as it is until the 300 series comes out.

How much of a performance upgrade would i be looking at? also the noise is a huge issue for me

maybe you could downclock your gtx480 a bit, save power, less heat, less noise and wait for the 380.
I don't think you are going to experience noticable lower frames in cs:go.

A lot, a whole lot more frames :D

i would guess 50-80% more frames + the power, heat and noise savings

question: are you using Vsync? i'd suggest limiting your fps to a maximum of twice your monitor fps (y'know to catch dips in fps) source games generally cap at 300fps, which is way too high for an older card.

I would rather invest in new thermalpaste. It isnt much but for around 7$ and a slight downclock its worth it

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

Why? If the most taxing thing they do is play csgo, and Linus showed that a freaking 285 can handle that at 4K without difficulty, why bother waiting for something marginally better than what currently exists?

I say buy a 960 or a 280 now, personally.

Waiting on a card that could be released in May or June is too long IMHO, and release does not mean availability neither a good pricing. I´d get some bang for the buck now. There is a ton of good cards out that will serve you perfectly fine for what you play.

Yeah but as soon as the 300 series comes out, by the rules of economics, all the other cards become cheaper

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1135?vs=1130 that's the current equivalent of what you have (if you give the 750Ti a modest overclock it equals out).

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1130?vs=1187 it's estimated (there are some benchmarks but who knows if they are real) that a 380x will be about 10-15% weaker than a 295x2. That should give a rough idea of the upgrade. CS:GO at 1440p does not require that much horsepower, unless you need hundreds of FPS.

The 480 with an OC of 850mhz on the core will match a 7870XT, it's a seriously powerful card for it's age.

your game runs fine on that card. I wouldn't waste my money. Clean up and reapply new thermal paste as suggested. If that doesn't work.......... any card above a 280 will be an improvement. Look for one with the right cooling ( see many reviews ). ( a 370x should crush the 580 )( not just limited to FPS ). add a fan to blow on the card. A cheap power supply will cause some heat problems. wish you would have listed hardware.

Do you even have the horsepower to take advantage of the 380? in what way will it benefit?

after market cooling works good sometimes. sometimes they are a pain and don't fit or look that great or cool ALL of the card. If your card is a custom pcb model you could run into troubles.

can i just say something as a CS player for 12 years NEVER PLAY ON 16:9 OR 16:10 YOUR EYE CAN NOT HANDLE IT. GO TO 4:3 ASPECT AND PLAY ON LOWER RES. I play on black bars but many prefer stretched. -Skrub
