Do old drivers get better performance in old games than new drivers?

Hi.

So I was having a conversation with someone and they made the outrageous bat-shit-crazy claim that older games will get "better fps" with older drivers.

His graphics card is gt 630m; a true potatoe. I don't remember the cpu it was some calculator inspired intel dual core.

My reasoning is that, my much newer laptop, hasn't gotten a relevant driver update in about 8 months. But there's been a mosh pit of driver releases. Thus these "older" drivers are really the same thing as the new ones. So any fps increase is imagined.

What does everyone else think?

Java tuts:

Constructors, possibly more to come.

221 Goodbye.

Maybe because its Ubisoft AssCreed, which runs like ass anyway.

Having a problem with just one game is not representative of all 'old' games.

But even if there was a particular old driver that ran better with <insert game>, good luck shuffling between drivers lol.

it ran find on my 560ti , got my 780ti and it looks awful , it was not like this before, this is like GTA 4 breaking the game if you have more than 2 GB of ram type of scenario
