Planning New AMD Build

4Strings

I'm planning a new AMD build next week and this is my planned speck:

SilverStone FT02 (which I already bought)

AMD FX-8350

Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z

Corsair H80i

Corsair AX860i

XFX Radeon HD 7950 (which I already own)

Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (2x8GB) 2,133MHz

Samsung 840 256GB SSD

WD Caviar Black 1TB

Windows 8 Pro (which I already own a copy)

I'm very happy with my plan.

Does anybody have any comments???

Thanks!

The PSU is way overkill but if you're happy then good luck :)

As above, PSU is alot more than required, however you won't see any problems, just a money saver to get a 600W which, even then, would be more than enough. Some of that money you save off of that could be used elsewhere in the build such as changing the SSD to the 840PRO over the 840.

The Samsung 840 does not come in a 256GB variant, I don't think--so he must already be looking at the Samsung 840 Pro.

A 500w PSU would be enough, 700w if you intend to crossfire.

Your CPU is fine, but personally I would get a 3570K if you only intend to game (i.e. not render/edit, etc.)

Your RAM is more than necessary for just gaming -- 8GB at 1600MHz is usually the sweet spot. However, like I said, if you intend on rendering/editing/modelling/3D work, then more RAM may be necessary.

You could use the money you save above on a H100i :)

Depending on how much more expensive the 8350 is over the 3570K, just remember the 3570K is better pretty much indisputably.

Thanks for all the comments!

-As far as the PSU is concerned, You're all right, it is overkill, and I bumped it down to an AX760i. I chose the 860 when I thought that I might make a custom watercooling loop, but I decided that I'm too much of a novice to go custom just yet. :p

-In regards to the SSD, Dim was right, there isn't an 256GB version of the non-Pro 840, it was 250GB. :)

-As far as the CPU is concerned, I'm happy sticking with the 8350, I just feel that you pay more for things that you won't ever use (like integrated GPUs) with Intel CPUs. And the guys at Tek Syndicate put up this video that finally proves the the FX-8350 CAN hold it's own against an i5 in real-world situations (that is, not benchmarks that were created to prefer Intel)...

That, and the fact that I can get an 8350 for $50 less than an i5. :)
