Cant tune cello

My cello can not be tuned, whenever i turn the peg (and push in) It just goes back. And the pegs are impossible to turn. Any ideas?

I use to play the violin, I couldn't read the script to save my life but I could hear a song and play along perfectly. I guess I have good ears? Whats the word? Opposite of tone deaf. 

 

I plan on buying a violin and getting back into the groove of playing again. I also want to learn the piano now but I really lack time.

Good luck man, knowing how to play a instrument can come in handy later on in life. I ain't that old but I've already seen some of the benefits. I need to pick that violin back up and buy me a weighted 88 key midi.

My home area has good music roots, home of George Eastman and the Eastman school of music.

And my high school has a nice music program (but absolutely terrible celloes to use at the school, one has a hole in it, all of them are terably scratched. My cello at school has a crack so big I can see into the cello. My home cello is nicer, but not set up well.

I'm pretty sure it's perfect pitch, but that's probably when you hear notes exactly right.

More talent than I have. I mean the playing part. I can hear very well. These gosh darn fingers just have a mind of their own ya know.

And then there's relative pitch, where you can assume what note it is, but not exact.

Thanks, I don't have perfect ears though. My left ear isn't as good as my right, my left ear hears some sounds better than the other however overall I can't hear as loudly as my right. 

Sometimes being modest about your ability can be a double edged sword ya now? Maybe someone you knows spends countless hours practicing trying to get good at something your good at almost naturally and you just shrug off their compliments saying something along the lines of "I'm not that good". There I go talking about psychology again...

I actually cant hear that well in my right ear any more. dont shoot a .45 pistol out of a truck 8 times. youll have muffled sound for about 3 hours and then constant ringing for 2 week before your body grows use to it. i can still notice some ringing in my ear when its quiet, not silent. as for the high pitch i dont know where my ear cuts off at but ive been in a few instances where i have met that peak and the sound distorted. as of now i wear ear plugs at concerts and mind the levels at which i listen to music. I also love high quality music and want to be able to hear it when im older.

IDK, guns in California are taken seriously, since there are a lot of bad things that happens with guns, i mean, gangs are pretty common here, also murder and suicides and that shit. if people see guns out in the streets, they assume you want to kill them.
