Xbox One Kinect SDK for Windows available for $399

There are a limited number of SDKs for Microsoft's next-generation Kinect for Windows.

Microsoft accepting applications for software development kits

The program fee will be US$399 (or local equivalent) and offers the following benefits:

  • Direct access to the Kinect for Windows engineering team via a private forum and exclusive webcasts
  • Early SDK access (alpha, beta, and any updates along the way to release)
  • Private access to all API and sample documentation
  • A pre-release/alpha sensor
  • A final, released sensor at launch

The program will begin in November 2013, providing developers with tools and a pre-release sensor to start coding, and building applications before its release in 2014.

Applications are open until July 31, with a fee for the program set at US$399.

Microsoft just likes to overprice and just shout out the value word when you know it's not there,  Kinect is worthless.  You get bored of motion gaming quick.

Not like the source sdk and cryengine ones are free, not forgetting a million others. I mean sure it will bring a lot of great opportunities for some lovely mods but sure it's just M$ trying to make some more easy money.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

The price of the SDK is not for the code, it's for the two Kinect sensors and the direct access to the dev team. Ya'll can calm down now.

Um... This is actually pretty cheap. The PS Vita SDK is about $1500 if I recall correctly, and this one includes multiple versions of the Kinect sensor and early access.

You get the sensors (alpha and release), the code (alpha, beta, release), and help from Microsoft directly. That is a pretty good price I would say if you are going to be making something.
