Why are people still calling them next-gen 15 months after release though, they were already previous gen before their release... =_=

It is I.

Sorry, current get consoles.

Some of my friends started selling their ps4s to buy a gaming pcs because they were underwhelmed by the system and any 13 year old script kiddies can hack the ps4

servers , its starting to get ridicullous.

Next gen consoles have been a great advertisements for people to buy gaming pcs.

yup.

for every generation of children there are. there will be a new generation of console gamers. half will stay there, half will leave for pc.

everyone who is already a pc person wont have kids that like consoles. thats just blasphemy.

Why are people still calling them next-gen 15 months after release though, they were already previous gen before their release... =_=

well, because theyre the closesnt thing we have to a TRULY  next gen console.....

i still think that thier power in terms of preformance would have been well placed if they were releaced in like 2007/2008. not fkn 2013-2014....

they hardly preform beter than the 360 and the ps3. (i never expected the wiiU to be some powerhouse either, it was never designed to be one... people leave thier 360 and call of duty to buy a wiiU and play pikmin, then are dissapointed when there are no grenades and explosions... *sigh* )

Nope, AMD will still be around. Their new Carrizo APUs seem to be bloody powerful really, capable of besting a console with the right setup (fast ram etc.) plus the upcoming R9 300 series look like they'll be more than up for a fight with nVidia, especially if they all come with HBM and a fairly efficient architecture. We might even see the R9 370 beat the GTX 960 for a decent bit cheaper, with any luck.

I hope not, as much as I prefer Intel and Nvidia, losing the competition would just leave everyone worse off. Having said that I haven't heard a word about AMD CPU's in a while, but their GPU's still get a fair amount of attention.

I think the vast majority of people on here forget that the vast majority of average people use their desktop and laptop to just get online or do light duty office work and for things like that the AMD APU will always have a huge place.

AMD used to be in the red just like their logo color.

Now they are financially ok. Not amazing, but fine to survive well enough, even if a flop occurs in their products line.

AMD APUs are impressive contrary to what many believes, and are on many low cost devices, which many people have.

If they can get their CPU even faster, closer or same level to Intel, then you'll see AMD products even more on store shelf, as AMD solution is cheaper than Intels, and their GPU are far better than Intel offering, not only in performance, but in quality.

I have a Surface Pro 2, and 1 thing that ruins the device is the Intel integrated graphics ultra buggy and craptastic drivers. They got a HINT better with the latest one compared to the initial version.. at least now you don't have options in Intel graphics control panel that act on reverse from the defined setting (yea, that bad!). That is also why I am simply not impressed by Intel showing performance of games and benchmark scores. What's the point? My games still crashes with unsupported DirectX or OpenGL API calls, despite Intel claims of "This time, we really have full DirectX and OpenGL support" for the 9th billion time, and broken settings.

Same thing that happens in every company that innovates. This was a calculated loss well before they lost it.

I don't blame you or OP-kun, but I don't know why people can't get through their heads:

AMD is not going away.

Nah. I don't necessarily think their CPUs are all too hot, but I think they're doing fine in the GPU department.

I've always thought of AMD as lower budget components, while still having decent performance.

Although I have the utmost respect for AMD naming a CPU Piledriver.

Nah AMD is not dead. They have some ground to make up in the CPUs but they do make some very good options for GPU's.

Their GPUs seriously outclassed the 700 series on a price/performance basis- they just draw more power and run much hotter.

Their CPUs... same sort of thing. They're good for the price you pay for them. They would actually be excellent options if applications actually took advantage of more than 1-2 threads, but they don't. So their CPUs aren't great right now.

They just need to do some catching up. I like Intel and Nvidia right now, but if AMD had a superior option I'd switch.

Side note: I haven't used their APUs but apparently they're pretty darn powerful for what they are.

Ummmm... AMD is a $5billion company... posting a $360mm lose (especially realated to R&D) is pretty normal.

But wait...think about it like this:

you have a 5ghz processor, but the crappy 400 watt PSU isn't giving you enough power, so it's only running at 4.67ghz. Is it dead?

No... Plus once you drop that sweet 1000 watt PSU in there (the one you're waiting to be released), you may even be able to push it to 6ghz.

Do you think AMD is now dead for both the CPU and GPU market and why?

No, there APU's are going strong, and hopefully the 300 series will blow the 970 and 980 out of the water. (as a 970 owner)

I have a FX 8370, I love it, even though I know the socket is dying.

I'm pissed at Nvidia about the (still continuing) 970 vram issue. There response basically called it a feature

The vram segments are separate? OK, but why is the 0.5MB section so slow? Causing tanking?

Their averages do not reflect user experience

And some people have pointed out their math is off as well.

Tech sites need to do individual testing with cards right off the shelf.

I dont want them to get away with it like they did with the 1.5GB 660 and 660 Ti.

Project Cobalt:

CPU: AMD FX 8370 Motherboard:

PSU: Corsair 750G2

CPU Cooler: Swiftech H220X

Keyboard: Model M + a lot of others

Mouse: Logitech G502

GPU: Fuck no. They stomp all over NVidia in the price to performance category except for the GTX 970. Heck, NVidia just released a brand new product, the GTX 960, and it's outclassed by the R9 280x (which is the HD 7970), and the R9 280x is only 5$ more expensive.

CPU: They need to get on their game. Their IPC is terrible and their single-core performance sucks. This makes them a no-no for gaming. I mean, the only CPU I would ever consider buying is the X4 860k because it has the best single-core performance of any of the AMD CPUs. It's still not great. Piledriver and all related architectures just are crappy due to that poor IPC. For the FUTURE though, they know their weakness and have been working diligently to fix it. It sounds like they're going to fix it with Zen. I could care less about heat output. What I DO care about is a high TDP cpu requiring an expensive MoBo with sufficient VRMs. That's extra cost that I don't want to have to pay. I mean, the FX-8320 might be cheap, but the cpu/mobo/cooler combo isn't.

AMD is winning in the GPU market IMHO because of the 970 VRAM issue, the only other option is 290, which is only $239, compition for the 960...
