Kim Dotcom releases MegaChat to take on skype as an encryped chat service

Internet entrepreneur Kim Dotcom has released an encrypted chat service, called MegaChat, to compete with the Microsoft-owned Skype.

The release would be rolled out gradually, beginning with video-calling on Thursday, he said.

The news came as it emerged a top EU official wants companies to be required by law to hand over encryption keys.

The EU counter-terrorism coordinator's proposal follows a similar call by Prime Minister David Cameron.

Pretty much, but that's mainly because we are used to Skype, and not "Megachat". 

Sure jamming Mega and the obvious use of the program together to make a name is hardly unique, but if widely adopted it will be as easily said as Skype.

Thats nice BUT...

1.) As long as it wont be on mobile I will still be using Skype because I dont even message or call normaly.. I always use Skype because it costs me only 3€ monthy for internet and I use no money for SMS and calls...

2:) As long as all my contats wont switch to MegaChat (or anything else) I will still be using Skype because why should I use service where I have no one to chat with?

3.) I dont like Skype much but its audio quality is supperior to other services so hopefully MegaChat will compete.
