Burning smell from my cpu

Hey everyone I just built my first pc but every time i turn it on I smell something burning and it comes from the CPU area. The power supply and gpu seems fine can some one tell what to do please

Hmm, if your cpu is still working I would personally think its something around the motherboard, can you check any of the (forgot what their called) capacitors and stuff and check if there are any burning marks.

The thermal paste on either the CPU or the GPU maybe?

What are the temps when you turn it on?

well the capacitors look fine. however i had a bit of a problem installing the cooler on the cpu, it took me a few tries to fit the cooler properly so i had to adjust it a few time and because of the cooler i only could use one of the ram sticks.

i dont turn it on more than a few seconds kinda worried about burning the entire computer

If the temps are fine, I'd probably be looking for foreign matter like paper, or fabric fibres where you've cleaned the surfaces.....

 

A quick load into your bios should give you info on your cpu temp

take the cpu out, put it back in, and reinstall the cooler with new thermal paste.

yep, and while you have the cpu out, check and see if you accidentally reversed any power cables. Like the 8-pin socket on the top of the mobo
