Yes. I believe it out performs the 285.

how well does it perform compared to the 770?

performance is basically identical at 1080p

at higher resolutions or higher textures the 280x with 3 gb vram wins out over the 2 gb 770

my 280x basically maxes out every game i play at 1080p

Have fun with the site. Note that it only shows games that were used on both cards, so if you want a full spec on a particular model, chose the same model on the right and left lists. Remember to click the red arrow.

Good card for 1080p games nice bang for buck but at this price range I would consider an Nvidia card.

...and which one would that be? the 770 costs more and is less powerful, the 970 costs 100 bucks more...

770 and 280x have about the same performance it also depends on the game and resolution. I would say spend the 100 bucks more and get a nice 970

Since the 280x is theoretically almost 3 years old.

The 770 is more expensive than the 280X and is slightly outperformed by it in most games, especially at higher resolutions than 1080p. And $100 is enough to put the 970 in a different pricing category.

it will probably beat the 960 when it launches, so yeah 7970 is still a good card. plus dat 3GB Vram is tasty.

For 2013 titles it offers identical performance. For 2014 upwards performs better due to higher VRAM. I don't know where Nvidia is heading with their new 960 with 2GB VRAM which will be less sufficient. They should have put at least 3 GB. Anyways 280X is a pretty good card at the moment if you can't afford a 970.

I have the R9 280, which I have overclocked to 280X specs.

I play Minecraft, TF2, Portal 2, BF3 and... that's about it really.

At 1080p I know for a fact it destroys those games, even when running 720p youtube videos on a secondary 720p monitor at the same time.

There is nothing in my steam library that this card can't get over 60FPS at high-max settings in.

I just bought mine there recently and right now it's at a realllllly good price. Got mine off Amazon for £140, it has gone on sale for as low as £135.

The price is so close to that of an R9 270, that it's just not worth getting a 270 right now.

Hope I was able to help.

here in Indonesia the average 970 costs Rp 2,000,000 more ($180), so it's not an option for me

I'm enjoying my 280X with 1080p gaming. It's more than capable for the games that I play. The most recent games I've played are ArmA 3 (various mods), Saints Row 3&4, Borderlands 2, Borderlands Presequel, and Crysis 3.
