Alright to give some background on exactly what I am trying to do and my system. I am using a laptop with 8 Gigs of ram with and under-clocked i7 (4500U I believe) and a GTX 745M (the reason for getting that graphics card not being pure gaming...) so it is a decent set up. On that laptop I am running Windows 8.1 with a VM running Arch and the desktop environment LDXE. What I am trying to do is shoot an informational video on a piece of software used by my lab. I have tried using CamStudio and have ran into several problems with it. The most recent being last night when I successfully shot a whole instructional video only to have it unable to correctly save the file and therefore it was unreadable. I am therefore trying to find some new software or more generally a solution. (I am open to purchasing hardware as I may want to do more instructional videos in the future we will see...) I would like to be able to set up whatever I am going to use so that I can re-shoot the above video before this coming Wednesday. I was curious if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks.

TL;DR What is a good Screen Capture solution for non gaming oriented tasks?

I like Bandicam, but the free version has a big watermark on top.

OBS is good for free and not only for gaming

I use Camtasia Recorder. Does a pretty good job.

I use DXtory for games.

You could also try OBS.

dxtory works with obs as a combo :P

I am pleasantly surprised, at the quick responses. I have been trying OBS for a little bit and after telling it to just record my main monitor. (I am running my laptop also hooked up to the TV but consider the laptop monitor to be main.) It crashes due to an error that says something similar to my driver freezing... Any solutions to this? I may not reply to this thread for a while I am going to watch movies and drink milkshakes with a friend... Again thank you guys for your help and quick response.
