I just pulled the trigger on a 970.

I just pulled the trigger on a 970 instead of a 980  , did i do the right thing guys? I'm feeling kinda weird , i mean , i know the 980 isn't worth the price tag , but will i be able to run 1440p without a problem? ( i'm not concerned about maxing AAA titles ) . On the other hand i might feel buyers remorse if i had bought the 980 . Tis weird D:

no, you can't max out 1440p. but you couldnt with a 980 either.

great choice imo! :) Get another one later on!

Yeah, you'll have no problem.  As you said, the 980 is not worth it.

Should've waited for the r9 390 or 380X, but right NOW it was a good choice :)

 

Why, I didn't know there was a near-release?

 

980 is worth it if you only have one slot and want that extra 20% performance.

980 is totally worth it, just depends what your budget is. But the 970 is a very strong card too, especially the likes of the new Dragon Knight card - that thing is a beast.

Feb-March (according to leaks)...but ya never know.

970 will definitely be quieter and cooler than the r9 390x. The performance will won't be earth shattering compared to a 970.

you made the right choice, at stock the 980 is 20% better but a overclocked 970 is about a 980. plus for near the price of a 980 you could get two 970's which would destroy the 980.

 

 

also, theres people going around complaining that thier 980's after a while slow down to a crawl on bf4. when i was playing the other night dude was saying his 980 was getting 20-25fps (1440p) when before christmas he was much much higher. after researching trying to help him problem solve we seen dozens of other people have the same problem...but only with that one game....weird

Now we play the waiting game , really curious to see what kind of cheap i got , i pray i get a good one so i can push a really good OC on it to match stock 980 performance , i have a set of games i play , not really interested in AAA titles , well maybe shadow of mordor , so as long as i can max out those older games ( borderlands 2 , skyrim , dota 2 , etc  , etc ) i'll be a happy man . Also adding a second 970 in a couple of months is not a bad idea to be honest :P

970 will murder all those games without even trying. you are more than good for a long long time

you will be totally fine with it, u will mostly be playing ultra 1440p no AA 40-60fps no problem. but i suggest u go medium or high on AA titles to get consistent fps. Also if you are lucky you can OC 970 and it will be just as fast as a stock 980 or better.

Yeah , thought of it like this " Since i will be upgrading in 1.5-2 years time regardless  , why bother spending 250€ more ? Keep the money and get a better CPU for instance"  :D
