Hey everyone, I'm almost 16 years old and love anything to do with computers.

I live in New Zealand and theres not a lot here to do with gaming in terms of development,

what would be some good ways to begin my journey in game development from a beginner view.

Source engine, Cryengine 3 SDK ( would probably be best to watch tutorials) and project spark are easy to start with. Unreal engine 4 can put money in. (UE4 is my favourite out of what I've worked with)

whats your problem?

OP needs to know how to program if he wants to be developing games...

he said he is a beginner, so obviously he doesnt know programming yet

did you know games are made by programming?

You can always make games FOR FREE  By programming and not buy overly priced engines. Learn some here: www.codecademy.com

Besides learning how to code, there are other sectors in making games. If you are good in graphics, composing etc. you can go for supporting role. In any case, you need to start building portfolio about your work, show off your skills. I don't know about how well Uni/college has game industry thought out in NZ. Even here at frontier of mobile gaming the specialization for game industries needs is just started to be standard part of IT teaching.

Demoscene is also nice place to start. Since its about showing off your skills in creating multimedia content, it acts as piece of portfolio. And in EU its pretty welcoming scene. In Finland, there are lots of game studios with demoscene background. Like Rovio and Remedy.

Unity is a good way to play around with some tools. It is very barebones though it has a lot of community content that's free.

Or you could just gather some people in the forums, make a dev group. Make a deal. each member gets what percent of sales.
