That feeling when you back up all your steam games

vt3c

Backing up all my steam games onto an external. It feels so good to have them all archived on a drive

I love you based gaben  .

Anyone else know this feeling?

I tried backing up my games once. The default file name was the combination of all the games I backed up which ended up being too long for Windows to handle. Steam didn't recognize the backup folder either. I couldn't even delete it because of the long name. I had to do some command promt nonsense to get rid of it.

I wish they gave higher upload, maybe 20Mb/s, but I'm not moaning. The service is great.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but, quick question?

Can you re-download from steam as many times as you like or is there a limit.

I bought a bunch of stuff in the Steam sale and installed it but now I have to pull my P.C. apart for a re-build and re-installation of Windows. Is there a limit to the number of times you can download the stuff you've bought?

There is no limit as far as I know.

Thanks, that's good to know. I know Bioshock limited installations at launch but I mostly retro-game so I've not really been following it.

I think that's third-party DRM that comes alongside some Steam games. There'll be a big warning sign if that's the case on individual games that have a third-party DRM.

there is No limit on downloads/installations for steam. Why would there be; the games are simply linked to your account.

I too archive my steam games (the ones which i like). Not to an external disk But to my internal mechanical HDD. The few installed games which i am currently playing reside on my SSD. Games are getting really big So i don't want to have to download them more than once.

My downloads are pretty fast so the archiving's not really an issue for me, it's just the number of installs (my Microsoft Office ran out of installs recently and I didn't even know there was a limit).

I love you based gaben  .

Both of the computers in my home have full continuous backups, so, yes. I know that feeling.

I (we) can restore from a backup drive faster than any one can download their data. Kudos for getting a backup.

you can re-download as many times as you want, but I like having an external HDD backup as I don't have 100MB/s download. 50MB/s read/write from my external is more than ample and I can load my games quicker. But when you have fast internet (like google fiber) PLEASE DOWNLOAD IT'LL BE SEXY

Yep! Plus when I have no internet and I need a reinstall, I can play games off of my external :)

I have 134 games on my steam account. I keep almost all of them on my 2TB RAID 0 drive and a few on my SSD. They are essentially all backed up. When I reinstall my OS, I simply re associate the D drive and games with my library. It's actually more complicated for my main C drive and have to re download those games. Steam should simply have a cut and paste similar to Origin when re associating games. You should be able to simply target your game files again and it re establishes a link with the game files.
