[Build Log] Project A.Y.U (Update - 11th March 2015 - Time-lapse build video added)

Greetings my fellow techies, and welcome to my first ever PC build, which I'm calling "Project A.Y.U."

 

So, what does A.Y.U stand for? Well, it actually stands for "As Yet Untitled," which is inspired from a TV show of the same name on the UKTV network channel Dave, hosted by local Essex (my home) comedian Alan Davies. It's also because, lot of people out there can think of really cool names for their builds. Whereas, this is all I've got, so...yeah.

 

Anyways, it is time for an upgrade for 2015. I have recently acquired a man cave, and a new PC would be a fine addition. I'll mainly be ordering from Overclockers UK, but if I need use any other supplier, I will. I will also be revealing each component when they are delivered, and giving their current status.

 

CPU: Delivered - Intel Core i7 4790K

Motherboard: Delivered - Asus Z97 PRO

CPU Cooler: Delivered - Cooler Master Nepton 240M

Memory: Delivered - Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB 1600Mhz

SSD: Delivered - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB

HDD: Delivered - Western Digital Caviar Black Series 2TB

Case: Delivered - Corsair Carbide Air 540

Case Fans: Delivered - 3x Cooler Master JetFlo 120, 1x Corsair AF140

PSU: Delivered - EVGA SuperNova 850 G2

Graphics Card: Delivered - EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW+ 4GB (will be going for an SLI setup)

OS: Delivered - Windows 8.1 (but I think you knew that already, so meh)

I really hope you guys enjoy this build as I go. As I said before, this is my first build. I shall be following Linus's build guides carefully and I can't wait to get started!

There's one other thing as well about a lot of these build logs that I see. They all have cool title pictures and they are sponsored by numerous manufactures. Me on the other hand, again, I've got nothing. All parts will be bought with hard-earned cash.

Update - 5th January 2015 - Motherboard and CPU have been despatched. Please note I'll be using blue text for any items that have been delivered.

Well, to be honest, I have no idea how anyone will react to the motherboard. Same with the CPU.

Update - 6th January 2015 - The motherboard and CPU have arrived!!!

 

First, the mobo. I'm not sure if anyone will be surprised or underwhelmed by my choice. But, here goes...I give you the Asus Z97 PRO.

 

And as for the CPU, well, I choose the top dog for this one. The Intel Core i7 4790K.

Update - 14th January 2015 - Just ordered the case this morning before work. Should arrive tomorrow.

Update 2 - Err...same date. The case was despatched earlier this afternoon. All I can reveal about it at the moment is that it will be a mid tower. Not an originally-planned full tower.

So, I just did a check to see if the case fits well on my desk. It does. But it is bigger than I expected
