@abdullahijaz22

If you are on a budget then don't get a $260 motherboard

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

It's compatible, but makes no sense.

I am on a budget, so no i7.

Then I'd suggest not buying:

- A $260 motherboard

- A $120 cooler

And if it's a video editing rig more RAM may be helpful.

For $100 more than your Xeon build you'd get an X99 5820K rig with 16GB of RAM which would be a lot better for video editing.

Or for $200 less an overclockable i7 rig which will still perform about 20% faster than a Xeon at stock (Xeon stock clock vs i7 stock clock).

Alright. I don't really like Asrock boards, and always used Asus or Gigabyte. I also need all my Systems to be as reliable as possible, hense the Z97 WS and a Xeon.

spending more on a board/cooler won't affect reliability the ws board is just as likely to fail as anything else

Well, I thought it would be more reliable with the better chockes and the facny power delivery system and stuff. I really liked the board and also have alot of Thunderbolt capable devices that I used with my iMac.

Swap it out for a X99S-SLI Plus then :)

There's no real reliability gain between the parts. Electronics have a 5% failure rate pretty much no matter what. All the X99s are gonna be the high end parts.

power delivery doesn't really matter these days

if you really need thunderbolt then this board will do the job

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128703 < also supports the xeon out of the box if you still wanna go with that

you don't need a 120.00 AIO either

this will be fine

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835856002

*keep in mind that haswell refresh cpus need a bios update before they will work so unless you can get another cpu stick with the 4770k

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116901

and a slightly better kit of ram won't hurt either

x99 uses a different socket ... jesus

the haswell refresh E3-1231V3 is only 3$ more...run's cooler and 100mhz extra clockspeed...worth it..

also you don't need to spend that much for an aftermarket CPU cooler a 30$ hyper 212 from cooler master would be PLENTY it's not like you'll be able to overclock this CPU anyways and this motherboard is also WAY overkill all you need is a good quality H97 motherboard....here would be my recommendation`:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($242.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($28.75 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Asus H97-PLUS ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($95.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($127.50 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($77.75 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Video Card  ($379.99 @ Best Buy)
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case  ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Cooler Master 650W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($77.99 @ Mwave)
Optical Drive: LG UH12NS30 Blu-Ray Reader, DVD/CD Writer  ($39.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $1260.92
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

As you can see this is significantly cheaper and will get the job done just as well.

the xeon isn't gonna do to terrible well with gaming so I don't see the need for the 970 ... unless he plans on upgrading

if he plans on doing a lot of gaming the z97 combo I posted would make the most sense

the Xeon 1231V3 is exactly the same as the i7-4790 when it comes to gaming so it's a terrific CPU for gaming...also the 970 in a workstation environement will leverage most of the work when using programs that supports cuda acceleration...you don,t know much it's obvious.

I will be doing some heavy video editing and 3D rendering, should I really go with X99 and a 5820K? $1600 US is all I can go for.

your budget will be raped by the X99 since it uses a different kind of board and DDR4 RAMs

stick to LGA 1150

go for a Z97 Gigabyte board and opt for the i7 4790K

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

i agree with all this except for the part where it says ''gigabyte'' i have had only bad experiences with gigabytes motherboards the bios is still the crappiest piece of engenering and you cant control the fans even after reading through the entire manual i was unable to set them to run like they should have...i recommend anything but gigabyte boards to be honest.

well true here

since OP want only Asus or Gigabyte, IMO Asus boards are great but carry a huge price tag, so the Gigabye is the cheaper option

and I will not suggest MSI to anyone after my bad experience with the H97M-G43 BIOS issues

this issue is not solved yet? my MSI bios is the nicest one i've ever had the chance to drive personaly...

And yes ASUS boards are good but they do carry a hefty price tag for what they are and the company couldnt care less about their customer...the care and services are ALWAYS a pain in the ass and slow.

nope i tred the BIOS update for the 3rd time and still get stuck trying to shutdown when I use 256 or 512MB

so I just let it run at 128MB :(

I not sure how the customer service levels is for different regions

The mobo,GPU replacements are done by my local distributor which is quite quick as they provide a 1 to 1 replacement for the 1st year with all your supporting documents

as for laptops, tablets and mobile phones problems, they are done at the local Asus service center

depending on the problem, it will take a week or two.

I sent in my Asus Transformer Tablet for battery issues and got it back within 2 to 3 weeks.
