half light half matter

team were able to discover half-light, half-matter particles in atomically thin semiconductors (thickness ~ a millionth of a single sheet of paper) consisting of two-dimensional (2D) layer of molybdenum and sulfur atoms arranged similar to graphene. They sandwiched this 2D material in a light trapping structure to realize these composite quantum particles.

"Besides being a fundamental breakthrough, this opens up the possibility of making devices which take the benefits of both light and matter," said Professor Menon.

For example one can start envisioning logic gates and signal processors that take on best of light and matter. The discovery is also expected to contribute to developing practical platforms for quantum computing.

Quantum Physics is freaking cool!  B)

word.

but its fucking unintuitive as a concept. and this is coming from a pretty good physicist

basically. tho you can understand what youre working with, but once you look at the big picture, how it all comes together, it has no meaning. it is just maths that explains phenomena that we observe in experiments.

IMO the more exciting find of the week is that Neutrinos may just be a Faster-Than-Light  Tachyons... That would be something if its proven. (somehow)

This graphic just amazes me -

ive heard... not completly convinced to be honest, but if it stands peer review and experimental data, sure, why not :P

also, no theory is proven, it just stands the test of time and experiments longer than others ;)

When can I have my holodeck?

well it says matter AND light, so once you screw a light bulb into your forehead youre good to go

there are many types of neutrinos and none of them are faster than light. and tachyons are hypothetical there is no evidence that they exist

Yeah this finding may be the proof we are looking for, but I agree with you I am skeptical at best.
