Do i need a 64 bit cpu for a 64bit os?

Yep, it will refuse to even install on a 32-bit microprocessor. Tho 32-bit versions of OS's will run on a 64-bit CPU.

 

How do i know that hte cpu  I buy is 64 bit?

Sory for the stuped question im new to this :)

All modern desktop microprocessors are 64-bit capable.

Yes, you would have to go back to before the Athlon 64 (2003) before you would find a 32-bit native architecture.

Actually, just get a 2006 laptop with the centrino duo platform and you can find 32bit only support (Toshiba Tecra M5 is a good example).

True xD. Even my old X2 7750 was 64bit although it came with 32bit win vista ...
