Is this normal Idle temp for i7 4790k ?

i have Corsair H90 installed, i want to know is this normal for an idle temperature? i'm not even gaming or doing anything , uptime of the system is around 3 days
asking this because i saw this comment where he says when he games he gets 45-55 , i'm not even gaming and i have 45 avg, is this bad ?

ambient room temp is probably 23-24 Celsius

on adaptive settings your idle core temp should be 5-10c above your room temp. your cpu should also drop to 800mhz while idle. hard to say if its pegged at 4.0ghz. follow these settings

so what now ?

did you change all the settings i posted above in the bios?

do this before we can go any further

here are the two variables you need to share with us.

core voltage

room temperatures ( sorry you said about 24c) your chip should idle at about 35c

all we know is your cpu is pegged at 4.0ghz. at what voltage is the question????

you need to get your cpu to throttle down while idle  800mhz @ 0.700V before we can determine if its a cooler\mounting issue

if its sits pegged at 4.0ghz we will get nowhere quick

when i set it to silent in MSI app, it used to go down to 800 , but it stopped doing that like 3 months ago , i stopped caring

clear cmos and enter the values i proposed

dont rely on the app

it that doesn't do it it must be something to do with the windows power management. i dont know how to fix that issue you posted

ok i updated bios and chipset and now its back to 800 mhz , it keeps fluctuating of course , it doesn't stay at 800 , it varies like 1000-1200-3000-4200 etc, it keeps on changing , i'm guessing this is normal ? also , not that i bought it down to 36 c idle , tell me what should i do to stress test it ? and what temp should i be looking at ?

EDIT : i ran Aida64 for abt 10 mins , got around 63-66 c

thae cpu fluctuating when idle is normal. as long as you see it hitting 800mhz your good to go

temps seem better

windows power options must have derped, you have your options back

i would set xmp profile so you hit 4.4ghz on all cores

stress test with intel xtu. i suggest a minimum of 8 hours. i run 18-24 hours personally.

if you use aida 64 or any other stress test make sure your vcore voltage is set for manual\static mode

if things are getting hot disable xmp

Well for my 4790k I get 24 idle and about 50 full load. It's also overclocked to 4.6ghz. I'm also cooling it with a corsair h105

we don't have Air condition here , i have never seen anything lower than a 31 in my life ,it never gets that cold in India

enable xmp at the 1600mhz profile if you can

if you cant

enable the 1866 profile. then manually set your ram speed for 1600mhz

idle temps are typically 5-10c above room temp. your idle temps looked fine after the cpu started downclocking.
