Why not ? capping your FPS at the monitor refresh rate is enough, save power, lower heat, lower noise, no coil whine.

Sometimes the physics engine is tied to the frame rate because of poor coding and foresight. Sometimes they just don't give a shit about PC ports.

The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.

They do it because the developers are too lazy to implement proper clock timing for different parts of the game.

This means that without proper coding, having a game run at 120fps instead of 60fps would cause issues, such as things running too quickly, and other bugs which would ruin the game.

then they could leave it as is, would be nice to that choice. We spend alot of $$$ on our systems and should be able to push ALL our games

true as that may be no game should be locked down on pc just because they didn't feel like making it right or whatever their excuse may, I personally think it's insanely stupid not to play with vsync on but sometimes it's nice to see how a game runs, other times it's nice to have a good benchmark. And then their are people with 144hz monitors. Should the get shafted because the dev does not feel like having 144hz or god forbid not even 60hz?

Games sometimes get capped at 60FPS. If your refresh rate is 144Hz, that's a bit of an issue.

In a lot of games you have a choice like Trine, what do you mean by push ?

Ohhh... I understood this wrong I thought that he asked why gamers sometimes cap their FPS.

144hz monitor user here, can confirm its a b*tch.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

Those are all fantastic reasons to use a framerate cap when necessary, and for developers to offer a variety of capping options in their games. They aren't great reasons to have a hard-coded cap.
