[Tutorial] How to make your 900 Series Video Card have a 0% fan mode!

Lays

For the ones asking if you can do it on 7xx cards, here are mine results: I used maxwell bios tweaker btw (which worked just fine with my asus 760 bios) but sadly i guess its hardware limit. Because even though its 0% the fans still refuse to turn off.

Oh you don't have "auto" enabled, enable it and it should fix it.

Also remember to make your fan curve look like this:

If i would do this, then my overclocled Gigabyte GTX 970 Windforce 3x probably would run between 80-90°C wich I don't want.

By the way, at wich tempretatures is your GTX 970 running with this fan curve? I'm just wondering...  ^_^

awesome guide, but i'm using a 970 hof and it says its at 0 but its really not.

i tried to flash it again but i received a cert fail,

then tried with a newer version of nvflash and cert fail again?

Help is appreciated :)

Thanks :)

It's not working because you don't have user defined fan control enabled.

Click the little gear, and make a fan profile that has the line at zero until 60-65c, then have it ramp up to 40% fan speed.

My cards run very cool actually, with 50% fan speed the top card hovers around 75-80 in games, bottom card sticks around 65.

At idle with the 0% fan mode, they run around 60, since that's when the fan kicks on to cool it off.

Hey Guys! Flashed and reflashed my roms many times so far no problem like bricking and stuff, but my Zotac GTX 970 AMP! extreme edition can only go as low as 25%, i just skimmed this thread and saw few of them have/had this issue so any way to make it work with my card? Thanks :)

While I think this interesting, and slightly risky and stupid, what is it with people who want a quieter GPU or fans for that matter? It's a computer, it's going to make noise of some kind, as long as it's not the click of death. Your computer is moving air through the system, you should expect noise because that's what air and fans do. I'm getting slightly annoyed with people thinking that any kind of noise is bad. That a computer should be seen and not heard. :P I mean yeah it may offer some benefits, but how practical is this really? Plus IF something happens, then you have to fix it and hope you don't void your warranty. On my EVGA card, I have a dual bios switch I can just flip to slight mode if I wish, or just have the fan speed drop to 500 RPM and I don't hear it. If it gets around 60 degrees Celsius, then it ramps up. But the noise is still so low even around 2,000+ RPM I don't really notice it. Am I the only person that thinks that ambient computer noise is actually ok to hear? Not to put anything down here, it's cool to find mods like this, it just doesn't seem worth it to risk so much for something so small.

Terve!
I have to admit that I am impressed.

Too bad my reference 7970 will be liquid cooled again soon and is not affected by that (I guess).

But there is one more question: How do you figure out things like that?

I mean, you don't just randomly change numbers in your GPU BIOS, right?

Thank you for the good information.

I figured if there was some cards that did it, why couldn't all cards do it?

People on OCN told me it couldn't be done, then I proved them wrong :]

If you can have a PC that makes noise, versus a PC that doesn't make noise, why would you choose one that makes noise?

Everyone is different, and everyone deals with noise differently.  YOU may not think it's a big deal, but other people in very quiet environments may think it's a very big deal.

Also, flashing a BIOS is one of the easiest things on the planet, and there's a step-by-step guide I made that helps people every step along the way.

Seems like it's hardware limited then, I think this is the 3rd person with a Zotac card that couldn't get it to work.

WOOPS

Sorry I got you confused with @Manoj8002

I've got lots of people PM'ing me and also people posting on this thread, and I seem to be the only one able to help everybody lol.

From the looks of it, you did everything right.  So if it's not working then it's most likely due to a hardware limiter somewhere on the card.
