A friend of mine is selling 2 of his 680. One is a zotac another is a palit. BOTH ARE REFERENCE DESIGN

here are my questions:

1) what are your comments on the brands?

2) What would you prefer?

3) why?

4) should I just wait for the release of the 770 here in the phils? I really like the vapor chamber design.

I'm no hardcore gamer by any means but I love gaming in full graphics.

THIS WILL BE A HUGE UPGRADE FOR ME SO PLEASE HELP! :((

I currently use a MSI 550ti OC Cyclone 2 card. soooooo yeah...

I max I can play with BF3 is med setting with 30-40FPS. :|

I would go with Zotac because they are a bigger brand compared to Palit. Also I have heard that Zotac is more popular in Asia, so support should be faster.

I personally would just wait for the 770 because you already have a 560 TI which isn't really a bad GPU. Of course this depends on if your friend is giving you a good deal on the 680.

I would most likely still go with the 770 because I would want the full warranty.

1. Palit and Zotac are both not very large names. That said, this doesn't mean they will perform any worse than a Galaxy card.

2. I would get whichever is cheapest.

3. If they both have the same reference design, the only difference between them would be the warranty. If the warranty is expired or the same, they are essentially identical.

4. That would depend on the cost of the GTX 680s your friend is selling. GTX 770s are just refreshed 680s with a firmware upgrade, so in reality they will perform only slightly better. The retail price for them in the Philippines could be very high. I would get the second-hand 680, as long as it is at a reasonable price (at least $100-150 cheaper than the expected price of 770s in your country).

1. Both brands are good.

2. I personally like zotac out of the two, but there really is a reason I like them better, its just because I've known the name longer I guess.

3. No reason but whatever has a better warranty.

4. I wouldn't wait just because the 770 won't be that good compared to the 680, it just has a few new features. Though only go with the 680 if its quite a bit cheaper than the 770 in the Philippines.

Reference design bro. They are Nvidia coolers. Also ASUS/Gigabyte/MSI have the best coolers.

Since they are both reference it doesn't matter which you get really. They are basically the same.

Palits "reference" cooler is not the same as a NV 680 reference cooler, it is just based on it, unlike Zotac. Palit's cooler tends to whine, go to your friend and test both cards ( test the cards at 70% fan speed ), the quietest is the winner, both cards are 680, and as a reference PCB 680 is a reference PCB 680, can't really go wrong with any of them, so just test both cards before taking one...

...wut

Palit makes blower style coolers, same as EVGA, but i read a lot about their cooler being loud, and can have coil whine, as i have seen Zotac uses a better model of a blower style cooler

Still not a very bad card, I had the 550Ti for 4 months. It can still run games so why not wait till a better GPU comes out.

I'm upgrading to a 7970 from my 550Ti. it was a very good card for 1280x1024, but at 1080p, it starts to be a bit sluggish.
