A small demonstration of how Ultrawide monitors/displays(21:9/Eyefinity/Surround)affect your PC games.

As graphics cards increase in power and many new and current games don't seem to challenge the GPU power available, more PC gamers are discovering Ultrawide (21:9) and Eyefinity/Surround Display gaming, such as myself.

I wanted to demonstrate exactly how this affects the games you play in the easiest way.

So here's a small album that shows how Aspect ratio changes the view within a game you might be playing in ultra wide ratios.

A lot of people seem to have a bit of a disconnect between screen size, resolution and aspect ratio, so this demonstration clears up the misconception of Large screen size versus Aspect Ratios.

an 800x900 halfed cut image Aligned perfectly you can see exactly how much wider the 32:9 perspective extends past the 16:9 perspective at the exact same location, perspective, and FOV.

Without a doubt, the ultra wide display shows that the Aspect ratio extends the view. This happens regardless of resolution setting.

Nice.

Widescreen is better than 3x1080p I think :P

I'll keep it at 1x1080p for a while I think ..

not sure how i feel of this. you see more of the sides but the middle is farther away, which is an important place of the screen in games like battlefield

You're mistaken. the middle isnt farther away. Lookat the 5th image with the superimposed layover. It shows you that nothing actually changes to the view, it's just wider.

The centeral 16:9 aspect ratio area in the 32:9 aspect ratio is exactly the same as if there wasn't 16:9.

The center isnt farther away, it's just that the images have extra space and vision that you can see.

It looks different because the images are shifted in size on the forum.

Here's an adjusted image that helps show this:

I would love something like this. But money and gpu power are an issue for me for something like that. I'll have my 2 970s up and running soon and that will be good enough for me on a 1440p screen for a while. One day though.... one day I will have an ultrawide setup. 3 of those 21:9 screens... that will be amazing.

No, I own dual 16:9 monitors in a 32:9 display configuration.

Side by side I'm guessing?

A friend of mine said he's seen a monitor stand where you dismantle them and more or less "stitch" the two panels together to create one, but I think he was dreaming...

5760x1080 reporting in. Most optimal IMO. No need for 120MHz monitors because you won't get over 120 FPS on Ultra settings at such a resolution. Better instead to invest in IPS monitors and go for a solid 60FPS. The FOV really grows on you. I can't play MMOs on my laptop anymore because 1920x1080 is just too small for me now.

Aren't you the person who kept crusading for Vindictus two years ago on The Escapist? What are you selling this time, lol?

Edit: I guess that must be Vindictus in the OP (wild guess)

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

If the HUD and such stayed on the primary monitor in a 3 monitor set up I'd be much more open to them in FPS games.

What fps doesn't keep the hud in the center screen?

UH no? Also totally offtopic.

They are refering to how the game extends the UI across the entire screen span.

I get that, and Im asking what game. Have only had that issue in AW, as that game is horrid regardless.
