OKay, so I bought Star Wars Battlefront Elite Squadron for my psp a long time ago. I lost it. If I download the ISO and put it into my PSP's, memory stick, is it illegal to do so? I already purchased the game, so............

it would still be considered piracy even though you have purchased the game, also to run an iso like that you need a modded psp which is also considered to be illegal

I'm guessing technically yes but seeing as you've already bought the game so you're supporting the game developer its not too much of a big deal.

It probably depends on where you live, but most likely yes. Around here it's legal (I think,

at least it was last time I checked) to make a copy of something you legally purchased.

EDIT: And downloading a cracked copy of a game is not exactly that./EDIT

However, in certain parts of the world even though you could legally make a copy of a game

you own, it would be illegal to break the copyright protection (which is most likely to

exist), so you'd only be allowed to copy it if it has no copyright protection mechanism

(highly unlikely I'd say).

And as mentioned, modifying the PSP's software might be an other issue entirely, even if

acquiring the game like this is legal.

To be absolutely sure you'd have to consult your local laws about this, any answer from

somebody living somewhere else is unlikely to be completely reliable.

the average person commits 3 crimes or more every day without knowing it because there are so many laws its hard not to go a single day without breaking one and some are incredibly stupid, so you used up one or 2 of yours for today, you still have one more haha

Both downloading the ISO and modding the PSP to use it are 'illegal'.

I say 'illegal' because nobody ever gets prosecuted for it, since the charge would never stand up in court and really isn't worth following up. You/your lawyer could easily make an argument that you bought the PSP and the game, so the method of re-aquisition and installation are irrelevant.

It probably depends on where you live, but most likely yes. Around here it's legal (I think,

Yeah, in Europe we're generally more relaxed about this. In Switzerland and the EU as Alpenwasser says, we're good to make backup copies of any software we own a license for. In the EU it's still fine even if you need to break DRM encryption to do so, but idk about elsewhere.

Afaik, in the USA it is illegal to make a copy at all, even for backup purposes, and it is illegal to 'jailbreak' a device - feel free to take that with a pinch of salt though for reasons I described above.

Like others have said it depends on where you live and what the laws are. For some places yes some no. I know in Canada if you bought something you can have multiple personal copies of that object in the same form. If I buy a game and lost it yea I'm going to download a second copy because I have already had one once. It needs to be for the same platform though I wouldn't be allowed to buy a pc game and download a xbox and ps version of said game. Same with a movie if I buy a blu ray I can have a blu-ray quality copy of said movie but if I get a dvd I am only allowed to have a dvd quality copy of that movie.

Whether or not it's legal is one thing, but does that even work? Does a PSP read ISO files or are you having to hack it to play ISO files? If you live in the USA you would be bypassing the electronic copyright restrictions (or something like that) which is illegal.

This is one of those things in which the answer is "yes, it is illegal" (probably), but most of the time no one would really care or even notice for that matter.. You're not really going to have a police special forces team rushing into your house because of that...

If I were you, I would mod it as much as I wanted, but I wouldn't really post the finished results on the internet and rub it in Sony's face.. If you don't tell anyone (other than your friends), no one is going to know what you did.

If you still got the bill, it's fine, but I don't think you'll get sued or arrested for that anyway so... Only big pirates that sell pirated content get arrested I think.
