Posted December 11, 2014 I need a good reliable HDD for storing big uncompressed video files that I am going to record to and edit from. I need roughly 1-2 TB of storage. I do like my computer to be quiet but I am not crazy for silence. I would like it to be less than $80 But if there is something much better for a bit more than I would take it into consideration I have been looking at the Wd blue, Wd green, Seagate barracuda, Seagate desktop HDD. Posted December 11, 2014 WD green would be the winner. If you need something super reliable wd reds, but they have a small price premium. Access times will be very slow. Posted December 11, 2014 If you're going to record to them, never get Greens, always get Blues/Blacks. Greens are for general storage and consumption only. Take a look at the WD Re line of drives as well. They're designed to be most reliable, and are a true 7200 rpm drive. Posted December 12, 2014 Hi there @jnmbhj! For storing the videos WD Green would suit excellent because storage is what it was designed for. But if you plan to edit on the same drive where they are stored, then I would suggest the WD Black to be the best fit, for it has the capacity to store the files and is a performance oriented drive with additional features for demanding apps. For instance, it has dynamic cache (which optimizes the cache allocation), dual processor and no touch ramp technology (the recording head never touches the disk).
