Why get a K-SKU CPU and a board that won't be able to take advantage of it? Get a 4690 and maybe an H97 motherboard.

What budget do you have to spend on a new CPU/Motherboard?

My Current Build:

Intel i5 3570K @ 4.4GHz 1.11V, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Asus GTX 760 DCII Overclocked, Corsair CX600M

Well to take advantage of that 4690K you'd want a Z97 board.

What about buying a 212 evo later and picking a Z97 up now?

Alternatively just grab a cheap 3rd gen i5.

I'd look for a locked i5 like the 4440/4460 since your motherboard cannot into overclocking.

otherwise i'd look for any Z97 motherboard that suits your taste and have the functions you want, i am really lovin my Z97 Krait from MSI

Get a 4690 and maybe an H97 motherboard.

an i5 4460 would do the same thing but even so its wasted money since he has 1155 mobo already. an i5 3470 is not much behind haswell

---

OP if you really want to overclock then yes get i5 4690K ,a cooler and z97 mobo. otherwise i suggest looking for an ivy bridge i5

Hi, i have a Intel Pentium G2120 dual core cpu, and a msi B75MA-P45. I need an upgrade and have thought about the 4690k+ hyper 212 evo, and a asus B85M-G. Any other suggestions on both cpu and mobo?

How about and Ivy Bridge i5 instead? An i5-3570K+Hyper 212 EVO would be a good value. Or a 3470 like @s3ns3 said.

Or second gen, people keep forgetting about them and I know they are older but still competant today :)

For some reason I read it as H67... DOES THAT EVEN EXIST???

Now I'm thinking a 3470 if you can find one cheap enough.

Newegg has the i5-3470 for $195. I agree it's by far the best buy there for Ivy.

And the i5-3470 is still a Tier 1 gaming CPU on Tom's Hardware's recommendation list:

There is no doubt that Ivy is still pretty damn good.

I'd go with the i5-3470 over that Xeon E3 1220v2, since the i5-3470 is $5 cheaper with 100MHz higher clock and since they're both 4 core / 4 thread CPUs.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115234

Now if you want hyperthreading, which is sometimes useful in games (e.g., Crysis 3, Watch Dogs, and a few others), and very useful for video editing and other content creation, the 4 core / 8 thread Xeon E3-1230v2 is a great choice.

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Quad-Core-Processor-E3-1230-BX80637E31230V2/dp/B0085MQUTU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418337709&sr=8-1&keywords=xeon+e3+1230+v2

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117286&cm_re=xeon_e3-1230v2-_-19-117-286-_-Product

The Xeon E3-1230v2 is also clocked 100 MHz faster than the i5-3470. No big deal (the hyperthreading without paying i7 prices is the big deal), but it's always nice to have a little more clockspeed.

Just make sure your BIOS is updated and ready for whichever chip you buy, based on the version recommended here:

http://www.msi.com/support/mb/B75MA-P45.html#support-cpu

You can find the current version of your BIOS from CPU-Z by looking in the Mainboard tab.
