Do I really need to go to college?

There are plenty of good non college jobs that are available, like a piloyt, which actually sounds like a good job.

Opinions?

Do you have to? no

Should you? hard to say

Is it a great opportunity? YES, I believe if you can get a great education and get a degree you will find many more paths open to you

I know, I didnt go to uni and I regret it every day, applying for jobs is tough when my CV barely has anything on it, I have no qualifications to prove myself with

Being someone who isn't and hasn't gone to university, I'd say depending on the career path you want, you could just save the money on going to uni.

A pilot? Either you need to join the air force or pay for a expensive private education. And after that the pay can be shitty, since you need the fly miles.

You can get good jobs, that doesn't require a college education. I'm not college educated yet, and I have a pretty good job.

All that said, a college education can help you get a better paying job. But it all boils down to what you want to do.

If you want to get a proper job, go to college. What if you cannot become a pilot? Then you'll end up as a guy in his mid 20's who doesn't have any education. And then you are in deep shit.

Eh, no. You don't need to go to college to get a "proper" job.

I think it all depends on who you are and what you want to do. College is not right for everyone. You will really want some type of certificate or qualification for whatever you do though, it gives employers confidence that you know what you are talking about.

A pilot is a great example, if you join the military and learn to fly you can get a pilots license once you get out and people will have a certain level of confidence that you know what your talking about.

The world would not be a better place if everyone had a bachelors degree. The world needs tradesmen as well.

sure, you can go to college. Have massive amounts of student debt, then MAYBE get a job that you couldnt get otherwise.

Or you could save your money and learn as you go. In the company i work for, 5 out of 6 people dropped out of high school. I am the 6th person, and the only reason i have not also dropped out is because im not 18 yet.

Depends on where you live. Over here you need to get a college education if you don't want to end up as a guy with a really shitty job.

It also depends on what you deem as a really shitty job or a proper job. I don't deem a 9-5 job that pays well but I hate as a good or proper job. I deem a job that I love, even if the pay isn't all good as a proper and good job.

your correct that there are plenty of jobs you can do without going to university.

trades like a sparky or a boiler maker are regularly high demand and you don't need a 4 year degree, you will however start as an apprentice meaning low pay for a little bit.

getting a technical trade trough the defense force is a good choice too

yeah finding a job has a good working environment is important, no point having a high paying job if your going to quit 6 months down the road

Depends on the job though. What do you work as? Not judging though, but as an aerospace engineering student myself, I would say that the job it leads to would be much more full fulling. Of course not every job such as yours needs a university degree. But plenty that I'm interested in would require one just out of sheer additional knowledge and skills you need.

The idea everyone quotes "graduate with huge student debt and MAYBE get a job" is utterly bullshit. It's so one sided. It's equivalent to saying "I wanna work at mcdonalds flipping patties so all I need to know is basic english, and every day skills. Therefore I don't need to go to highschool".
