Hey guys,

Sheepy here, I've been planning my PC for a month or so now and have gotten quite a lot of advice from people on how it is and I've improved it a bunch (link at bottom, please check it out with advice if got any). So now I've got it all setup, now I don't need anything else... apart from a good keyboard. I'm looking for mechanical and there's a large debate between the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate and the Corsair K70 (not really into the RGB versions as much but I really like the reactive with the Razer). So what should I go with? Razer or Corsair? Razer has their own custom switches which are okay, but a bit too clicky while Corsair have the MX Reds and MX Browns.

Options:

Razer Blackwidow Ultimate (2014)

Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red

Corsair K70 Cherry MX Brown

What I will be doing:

1. Gaming, lots of it!

2. Some typing and doing forum posts, chats, discussions etc.

3. Surfing the web and going on facebook etc.

So, any advice?

Do you care about backlighting or future customisation?   I would go for PBT keycaps due to sheer quality.

BTW in terms of quality CM=Filco=Ducky=Leopold=Vortex(I am sure a few may disagree) > Corsair > Razer.  CM is made in the same factory as Filco.

Depending on country CM is almost half the price of Ducky with neglible quality differences.

Intel 12400F | 2x8 3000Mhz Corsair LPX | ASRock H570M-ITX  | Noctua DH-N14 | Corsair MP50 480GB | Meshilicious | Corsair SF600Fedora

Thanks let me know if I said something useful. Cheers!

I does not say if that has back lighting or not.

It is not backlight, that is the original rapid http://gaming.coolermaster.com/en/products/keyboards/quickfirerapid/

When you say customisation what do you mean? And for backlighting, sortof, nothing too advanced and technical like the K70 RGB or the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate RGB. When it comes to backlighting I like the Ducky Shine 3 or Ducky Shine 4 as I've found it for around 120 USD which is quite good I think compared to other websites I've found. So what's would be better in your opinion? CM or Ducky? I'm not in the US and I'm not in UK/Europe.

If CM, what qualities does CM have that Ducky doesn't.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I mean custom keysets which make the keyboard more unique. Between CM and Ducky, they both have MX switches and metal plate mount at that price range, so it would be down to personal preference and price. I personally prefer value options and don't believe Ducky is worth 30-40 USD more, I could get some very nice doubleshot pbt\pom keycap or sub dye pbt for that price.

"I could get some very nice doubleshot pbt\pom keycap or sub dye pbt for that price." meaning?

I've found a site where I can get a Ducky Shine 3 Cherry MX Brown Blue LED for quite a good price:

http://www.ncix.com/detail/ducky-dk9087-shine-3-mx-b7-90657.htm

Would it be worth it? That's 140 CA Dollars which is 120 US Dollars

I would buy a CM like this http://www.ncix.com/detail/cooler-master-cm-storm-quickfire-79-90912.htm then buy some higher quality keycaps like these http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1003 to replace the stock keys.

This combo would cost 130CAD, and provides far higher quality keys on a board of similar quality.

Or you could get just the CM in the link above and save even more money.

Edit/Update: Just read the comment about blue or magneta back lighting would you consider red?

Awesome, thanks for the facts, I'll take a look into it.

And when it comes to backlighting, I would consider red depending on how vibrant it is, for example, with the Ducky Shine 3, the most vibrant (in my opinion) is the blue and magenta and the red not so much. But I do quite like blue and magenta and can consider red.

EDIT:

Normally when it comes to types of switches I normally would like Cherry MX Brown as they are good for typing and gaming while reds are better for gaming in general, are they still good for typing? Does this keyboard you recommend come in Cherry MX Brown?

after some heavy amount of digging it turns out that the keyboard I recommended isn't actually backlit it was just a photoshoped backplate. :/

Hmmmm stick with the Ducky, you won't be disappointed.

Or if the CM keyboard you recommended comes in Cherry MX Blues or the browns that would be awesome.

Cherry MX blues for gaming??   I would stick to browns and red if you game alot.

The CM is an EOL sku, which is why it is so cheap.

Awesome, thanks for all the advice and help anyway, I wanted to be sure the Ducky I was getting is good, and it seems like it is. You agree? Great build you got there by the way.

Yes it is good, Ducky also have great customer service in Northern America.

Thanks, it is pretty much future proof for another 3-4 years.

Only in Northern America? What if you're not in the US, no customer service? Is this by email too?

I meant North America continent.  Based on what I have read on forums those outside of the Americas tend to deal with issues via email if they occur.

Oh okay, I thought only North America could get that. Just in case I had issues.

Sooo, looks like I've come to the verdict; Ducky Shine 3 it is!

(Chery MX Brown Blue LED) :D
