upgrade cpu poll

Go to solution Solved by godsarmy,

Thanks for all your guys input I ordered the rog impact vii and a 4970k and 16gb crucial tactical tracer red green, EK motherboard water block, and Green Mayham's coolant. Putting together that new cable order today!

3770K costs less, may overclock better, is easier and the 4790K's 10% IPC performance boost makes little sense here.

Well if you had the money for a Titan Z then I'm sure you can save up the money to get the 4790K option but if you need to save money a 3770K will be sufficient.

My Current Build:

Intel i5 3570K @ 4.4GHz 1.11V, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Asus GTX 760 DCII Overclocked, Corsair CX600M

Was going to say the same, but the 3770K upgrade offers near the same performance while being less of a PITA.

Money is not the problem, just will be a bunch more work and down time.

Well it's really up to you then. The performance isn't too different between the two options. Go with what you feel like :)

The extra money that comes with multi-threading (what you're really paying for when moving from an i5 to an i7) is only really justified if you are doing content creation (Streaming, editing/rendering videos, etc) Usually guys that make youtube videos and stream on a consistent basis, and edit their archives to make highlight videos etc are more inclined to buy an i7, but if you don't see yourself doing that, spending the extra 80-100 bucks for one isn't worth. grab an i5!

BUT, at the end of the day what matters most is personal satisfaction, an i7 would still be fine and wouldn't be overkill at all

The i5 I have 3570k, is maxing out on my favorite game bf4. I'm replacing it because I believe it is the cause of stuttering in game,

150 plus fps

Gsync monitor

All 4 cores above 95% usage in game @4.2 ghz.

I never had the problem in my old pc with an x79 i7. So this upgrade is a type of trouble shooting

Have you tried other games at that resolution? IMO that game was not optimized as well as BF3 was

150fps on a 144hz gsync monitor will cause issues. Just increase the settings. so you stay well below 144. Something like 120ish.

Lol sorry gsync doesn't let it go above the refresh rate

150fps is what I was seeing on my last 1440p monitor,

Good catch, I didn't notice that he said he was getting 150fps. Yeah that's really the issue. I would just increase as much of the settings as I can so you average around 120 like he said.

i voted 4790K. reason is because not upgrading to the latest possible bothers me.

but either cpu is a good option.

Either way I HIGHLY doubt it is the CPU, I have seen other threads on other forums where people say they get stuttering in BF4 on gsync monitors. BF4 is just not well optimized, at all

Yeah but still, why would you want it to render at a higher framerate than your gsync monitor. It doesn't make sense. Just make sure it stays below 144fps.

Increase AA, use Super sampling.. whatever. You apparently have the extra GPU power, use it to make it prettier instead.

This perplexes me a bit. Why did you buy a G-sync monitor if you have no idea how it works :/

It's actually documented that after you hit 144fps, gsync starts to lag. I've seen an article about it

Why is there less lag in CS:GO at 120fps than 143fps for G-SYNC?

We currently suspect that fps_max 143 is frequently colliding near the G-SYNC frame rate cap, possibly having something to do with NVIDIA’s technique in polling the monitor whether the monitor is ready for the next refresh. I did hear they are working on eliminating polling behavior, so that eventually G-SYNC frames can begin delivering immediately upon monitor readiness, even if it means simply waiting a fraction of a millisecond in situations where the monitor is nearly finished with its previous refresh.

I did not test other fps_max settings such as fps_max 130, fps_max 140, which might get closer to the G-SYNC cap without triggering the G-SYNC capped-out slow down behavior. Normally, G-SYNC eliminates waiting for the monitor’s next refresh interval:

G-SYNC Not Capped Out:

Input Read -> Render Frame -> Display Refresh Immediately

When G-SYNC is capped out at maximum refresh rate, the behavior is identical to VSYNC ON, where the game ends up waiting for the refresh.

G-SYNC Capped Out

Input Read -> Render Frame -> Wait For Monitor Refresh Cycle -> Display Refresh

Gsync being on won't allow it to go over.

It was my mistake on the on saying I was getting over 150 that was with my old 1440p monitor.

With my new rog swift I don't go over 144 fps post-6822-14163488249184_thumb.jpg

I know, but that's what's causeing the issue. It's just "vsyncing" now. Do you know what Gsync does? And why you don't want it to run near the max of your refresh rate? :/

Just increase settings so you hit 90-120fps. That should be plenty for fluid gameplay and you have the extra eyecandy to boot.

g-sync chips are not powerful enough???

if not, seriously Nvidia...

You didn't buy that monitor for G-sync?

Yes I bought it for gsync, what I was saying is that I'm was not trying to hit the 144 hz refresh rate limit it just dose.

I turned up the resolution scale to get the frame rate down and it still stutters once about every minute or so.
