Getting a new psu. What should I get?

upliftsleet1974
Go to solution Solved by upliftsleet1974,

So last night I turned off my computer for the first time in a few weeks and then turned it back on when I got up this morning...And now the fan is making tons of noise. :( Its still under warranty but I can not be with out my computer for 2-3 weeks to rma it so...Looks like I am going to have to buy a new one.

What should I get? My specs are in my signature so I need something at least 500-600w. I do not want to spend more then $75.

I would also recommand BeQuiet! as i have one in my rig (Dark Power Pro 10 with 850W) and i can never hear it. They got a very silent and high quality lineup and with by example an e9 series you should come under 75$. Anything from a known brand like Corsair, CM, Seasonic or Antec would also be fine. I still reccomand BeQuiet :D

And XFX and EVGA

Not "anything" from XFX. I've seen a few bad models from them. Else, yeah, they're pretty decent.

If you're willing to go over and send in the rebate, the EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W is a very safe bet. (It's also fully modular.)

Edit: Also, 10 year warranty.

Corsair RM650

But i would suggest the 850, as it is only a couple bucks more but is 200w more. So you could upgrade without problems in the future.

Unless you can really define 'better', that's gonna be the best you'll get. It's one of the cheapest 80+ certified and fully modulars around from a trusted company, either way, enjoy whatever you end up purchasing!

The EVGA NEX isn't that good, but I guess you already ordered it. If not then look for a Rosewill Capstone 550W or an XFX XTR 550W.

The better EVGA units are the Superflower made ones which are the 750W G2 and above. The NEX is made by a different manufacturer and is on a different platform to the G2.

This Rosewill Capstone is a very good price at the minute ($59.99 after rebate) and it is a better unit than the NEX.

Wow this is a hard choice. Have not heard great things about Rosewill :(

Would there be any great reason to go to this over the Rosewill one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438017&cm_re=evga_g2-_-17-438-017-_-Product

Rosewill has quite a few solid units that I have no problem recommending, the Capstone is among one of them.

The reason you should go with the Rosewill is the fact that you could get an great 750w PSU for $79.99 or $59.99 after MIR. It's an excellent value.

The reason you should go with the EVGA Supernova G2 is that is based on a higher-end platform of the same OEM (Super Flower - Leadex Gold platform). It better better electrical performance, build quality, full modularity, semi-passive cooling (for quieter operation at lower loads), and a longer 10 year warranty upon registration. You could get it at NCIXUS.com for $109.99 or $89.99 after MIR. http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=94405&promoid=1424

Edit: Btw, will you be CFX that 270x?

I'd edited my post too late. I meant to ask will you be powering a second 270x in CFX? Because a 750w will be able to power such a system, so you know. As such the Capstone 550-M would be good, but just noticed that it's only $10 cheaper than the 750w variant (thought it was $20 at first).

Nope. If I need a better gpu I will buy a newer one.

So its really not worth the $10 to me.

Looks like I am going to just go ahead and order this: http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=94405&promoid=1424

One of the big reasons is I can mod the cables very easy. And that 10 year warranty if I manufacture stands behind a product like that I feel they can have my money.
