Okay, which one should I go for? I play a lot of Battlefield 4 and render stuff (3D and Premiere)

 

I have a 1155 Board, 500W PSU.

How much is the 3770k?
Seeing as they're EOL we have no idea what you're getting it for..

I mean you can't buy them anymore...so...clearly you're getting it used.

Honestly that's way, way way too much for a chip that's that old. I can get a 4790k for that. New.

Hell I got my 2700k, 4 years ago for $270. It's only a generation older.

 

At that price why are you not getting a new chip?

Xeons are out of the question then?

Depends what you want to do with it and how much they cost.

You can get a mighty good Xeon off eBay for around $180. A lot of them new.

 

If you don't want to OC, that's the route I'd go.

If you can get a killer deal on the 3770k (think around $175) then it might be worth it. But you can likely get a comparable Z series board for $120, and 4790k's are not that expensive if you look around.

My 2700k still does just fine, and will easily last me until my next upgrade in a year or so.

fwiw I took a quick look around the local classifieds, and I can get an E5 1603 and Gigabyte X79 UD3 board plus cooler for $225. So. You should be paying a lot less.

Unfortunately, as you know, going for the 5820K would mean a whole new mobo. I don't think @XTankSlayerX wants or has the money to go the X99 build route. ;)

Forgot about that. I knew for the 5820k but I thought 3770k + 4770k + 4790k were socket 1150 :P

Nope. Ivy Bridge (3770K and the rest of 3rd-Gen Core i's) are LGA 1155, like Sandy Bridge was.
