I am in the market to buy a mechanical keyboard. The only type of switches I have tried was the blue switches. I really like the feel and sound of the blue switch, but I have heard that blues are not very good for gaming. Does the blues work good for gaming? Apparently the reds are best for gaming, but I would like to know what my keyboard will feel like before I buy it.

All the switches are a person's opinion. I love my keyboard and it has blue switches.

Blues are the best for everything.  I will forever only use blues, maybe a green just to try it.

Simple answer BLUES FOR EVERYTHING!

I would love to try Green switches

Pfft, I love my MX Blues for gaming.

This.

Also, the reason they are considered "bad for gaming" is because they are hard to press down. Some people get "fatigued" because of this.

Reds are considered "best for gaming" because they are easy to double tap (less force is required) and lack the audible click (can get annoying if you press keys very fast and a lot).

Blacks and Browns are the middleground between the two imo.

I prefer Blues myself. I like the click and... fatigued? My fingers? lol no.

Edit: Greens are like the more extreme Blues. Most Space Bars are actually Green switches (particularly on Blue switch Keyboards). Greens have an even higher actuation force requirement than Blues.

If anything it makes your hands stronger for gaming lol :D.

I love using Blues, and I agree, fatigue? Pfft, that's not going to happen.

Proper posture and massive hands destroy any concept of fatigue.

I can't look it up atm  (at work and can't Youtube), but do Greens have the audible click or are they just harder to press?

Bought a sampler kit from WASD keyboards. As far as I can tell, the actuation force is so small, all switches felt just as easy to press. Which one you choose depends on the amount of tactile feedback you want. If you find the click annoying, get the MX Browns. If not, MX Blues should be fine.

I believe they're just harder to press (really really want to try them).

The blues are only 5 grams more than the reds though right? That is not much.

They are not harder to press at all.  they are quite easy to click.

While the difference between Reds and Blues is about 5grams (I think, in the case of grams), the difference between a Green and a Blue is 10-30 Grams (I want to say 30, but my memory is fuzzy). It's much bigger considering the total actuation force for Blues is 50-60 grams (once again, memory fuzzy) making Greens 60-90 grams. That's a 20-50% increase which can be somewhat notice-able.

It's just much more notice-able for people who have small hands or type a certain way (bad posture).

Yeah I was talking about the difference between reds and blues.

Edit: I really like how the blues are so easy to press. I don't want anything that would require more force.

It is all about personal preference here, one must shrug off this 'one size fits all' thinking. I am fortunate to have the opportunity of have about 8 switch types to try, Green doesn't hold a candle to White/Clear, they are stiffer. I have Green, Blue, Brown, Black, Red switch keyboards, and a classic Model M with buckling spring, and I find gaming with them to be pretty good, I do about as well with my Model M as I do with my Black, Blue, and so forth. So, Blue is fine for gaming, this coming from a guy who started out with Reds, the preferred gaming switch type.

Haha, "Fatigued", because gamers are so lazy they get tired by pushing keys down XD

As for the OP, It really depends on what your personal choice is. If you feel you like blue the most, use it.

Ok thanks everyone! I live in a really small place so there is nowhere for me to go and try different keyboards. It seems like the blue switches will be the ones that will fit me the best.  :)

Just bear this in mind, Blue is pretty good for gaming, no doubt about that....but if you share a room with someone else, or if your computer is located where there might be others around, the noise the KB makes can annoy those nearby. I've read posts where some guys have to swap their Blues for quieter switch types so as not to further annoy their siblings/spouse who may share the room.
