GTX 970 VS 780Ti

Hello guys i am thinking of upgrading my gpu but i am torn between two choices.

Asus Strix 970 380 euros

Gigabyte Windforce 780ti 485 euros

The GTX 970 will comsume a lot less power but the GTX 780 Ti is more powerful. I love the Ti but I think I'd go with the GTX 970

For only 5 euros more? 780 Ti any day at 1080p or 1440p. It's 980 level performance, not 970. 

 

Anybody who says 970 is just on the stupid bandwagon because it's new, it's Maxwell, and it's Strix. If you have the power supply to run a 780 Ti, there is no debate.

I suggest Strix 970, even though there is a very slight performance loss. But you get a quieter card that draws less power and has more VRAM.

The 780 Ti is more powerful, but the 970 is a much better value at that price.  Definitely go with the 970.

If the difference is little, then I would agree with you, but in most cases the 970 is significantly cheaper and for those reasons when it comes to pure value the 970 wins hands down, it's not even open for discussion, you get almost the same performance when overclocked (if not more), and at a much lower price point, it just wins when it comes to pure value.

The 780ti is not close to the 980.

It is basically the same as a stock 970 (as you can see from BOTH videos)

 

When you overclock the 970, you can get close to 980 performance, which is far above the 780ti which on average will not overclock anywhere near as far as a 970 can.

 

So basically buying a 970 you get the same as a 780ti for cheaper, with the potential of performing much better when overclocked. Plus you get lower power consumption, temperatures, and less noise.

Problem is you can't compare stock clocked 700 series cards to stock clocked 900 series because the 900 series is boosting so much higher out of the box compared to the 700 series. Not really a fair comparison at stock. What the actual cards are boosting to makes all the difference if you are ever trying to compare the 700 series to the 900 series.
