so i installed AVG on my new laptop and load time went from like 8 seconds to about 12. once i uninstalled it went back to being fast, since i'm very smart i decided to just live without it. now my question is why is it causing such a massive difference in SSD load up times. I mean is it that bulky that my load up times become rubbish ? :L BTW im running an 840 EVo with a 4710MQ

I heard AVG installs some malware/crapware too.. That might have been something that caused it.

Try Avast Free Antivirus. If there is a difference, do tell me. Thanks.

You really should not bother with any kind of antivirus is going to get infected anyway because of how many types of these cyber monsters are created each day.

For that there's Malwarebytes. Other than that an antivirus protects you from known viruses.

yep, especially on a laptop. i bought a SSD to be fast, and if it's being slowed down by bloatware then bye bye. Tbh i doubt any of the stuf AVG is going to load will help me at all. what does it load that's crucial ?

ha ha ha...well let me tell you a funny story.About a week ago a friend came to me with his old usb because he want some music and stuff so i was like sure why not.I had the last version of kaspersky and malwarebytes and the second i connected that filthy usb to my pc all went crazy for a min or so then shut down.I tried to restart the pc but nothing the virus or whatever was on that crap fucked up the pc so badly that now my motherboard is in service, both bios chips corrupted.

he had that usb for like years without even using it.

so i took his usb and i will take it so a specialist these days

I use Avast+ MBAM like everybody else. I use Avast for everything but scanning because that's what I use MBAM for. I also have ADWCleaner lying around and run it occasionally.

I also de-activated MBAM when I first got it so it stopped actively protecting me.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

AdwCleaner has saved me in my non-techie days a few times. Finds actual crapware, unlike MBAM occasionally does with useful software.

You really should not bother with any kind of antivirus is going to get infected anyway because of how many types of these cyber monsters are created each day.

PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW THIS ADVICE. THIS IS HORRIBLE, MISLEADING, POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS (to your PC) ADVICE!

Yes, there will be viruses that have the potential to get through any AV, as nothing has perfect security. But you greatly greatly increase the risk by running no anti-virus.

Common sense (which is basically the only defense you are advocating in this quote) is 100% totally inadequate on the modern Internet. It will not protect you from exploits, bugs, or legitimate websites that get compromised.

At the very least, run Windows Defender (Windows 8+) / Microsoft Security Essentials (Windows 7), or another free anti-virus like Avast.

Also having MalwareBytes is a great idea for the occasional manual scan, but MalwareBytes is NOT adequate as your sole defense.

ha ha ha...well let me tell you a funny story.About a week ago a friend came to me with his old usb because he want some music and stuff so i was like sure why not.I had the last version of kaspersky and malwarebytes and the second i connected that filthy usb to my pc all went crazy for a min or so then shut down.I tried to restart the pc but nothing the virus or whatever was on that crap fucked up the pc so badly that now my motherboard is in service, both bios chips corrupted.

he had that usb for like years without even using it.

so i took his usb and i will take it so a specialist these days

that's where you've got to play a clever game with cracks. i only get stuff from places i know i'll be okay and people have tested it before hand. I would never download music, tbh he probably got it from limewire. HOw come this guy never noticed that those viruses were there in the first place?
