Hey guys,

So im thinking about picking up the guild wars 2 digital deluxe edition while its on sale, since i havent heard much about it i just wanted some quick feedback on it before i make the purchase.

Ive been enjoying games like wow for many years but i hate the monthly fee style in those games. i dont mind if there's premium content for optional purchase (xp boosters, armor skins or just boosts and gear in general) however im really not a big pvp person. I love the giant raid boss kind of things and dungeon exploration for loot. i like to have a decent crafting system near the end game to get high grade gear and preferably a fair bit of customization to make myself atleast somewhat unique :)

Any feedback you guys can give or alternate games to recommend let me know!

I really like Guild Wars 2, but if you love the "giant raid boss" dungeons, it's really not for you. The single-player living story is okay, and there are 5-man dungeons that are alright, there aren't any raids so it isn't a big PvE raiding MMO. Its strength lies mostly in the PvP and server vs. server stuff.

I don't know. It was fun game to play but I haven't got to play it for quite some time. I may borrow you my account if you wish to try it out but I will have to change password first as I don't want you to know mine :) You will be stuck to EU server though.

PM if you are interested.

I've played since the beta.

As the others said, don't expect to find raids or (for the most part) raid boss-style encounters. Most of the PvE content is either in the decent-but-limited 5-man dungeons or in persistent open-world content. They also have a system called the "living world" that theoretically adds new story-driven content to the game every two weeks. The living world used to be somewhat poor, but is shaping up rather nicely at the moment if you're comfortable dropping in to a story part-way through.

You can easily avoid PvP, but as a PvE player myself, I can say that you may find the world vs. world PvP format to be very approachable and enjoyable.

I should also mention the game's technical optimization is poor. Even if you have a high-end Core i5/i7 rig, expect to be CPU-limited down into the 40 FPS range at times when you are in combat with big chaotic groups. To my knowledge, no consumer-available CPU can keep GW2 at 60 FPS at all times.

The game's currently $20. For that, I think you'd easily get your money's worth even if you just leveled to 80 and quit. I would not bother with the Digital Deluxe edition, as the added items aren't terribly exciting in my opinion.

Guild Wars 2 is more about PvP than PVE (dungeons and loot). Probably better than ESO at PVE, but if PVE is your thing? WoW, Wild Star, SWTOR, Tera are the options.

The leveling is much more fun in GW2 than WoW though.

Also gear in GW2? More about skins than "high end gear". GW2 is nowhere near pay to win. I never spent a dime past initial payments and was one shotting people for months with a warrior/rifle/greatsword mobility build with food buffs in WvW.

I did farm gold/craft for like a few weeks to get the legendary precursor though. It looks better than the legendary though imo (sniper rifle) so I never bothered to make it a legendary. No idea if that spec still works (I used shield axe/sword in battlegrounds) but it was funny as hell.

I haven't played in a long time, but WvW is pretty fun. As others said it is very demanding. You have an I7 K though so you are set. Anything but a I5 K in world vs world is probably not a very good experience. Many people I played with quit due to that.

The game isn't threaded well enough to favor an i7 any more than an i5. As far as I know, i7's don't run the game much better and still sit around the 40's in huge zergs. But by GW2 standards, that's pretty good.  <_<

I can deal with drops in perormance.. Wow always had the same issues usually so ive come to expect that in mmo's regardless. wildstar is one im considering but i hate the monthly fee style of those games because i feel obligated to actually play the time ive payed for. With that kind of a mindset i find i dont really enjoy playing the game nearly as much and feel like im playing purely because of the money i spent. A co worker of mine just told me he owns it and will let me try it out at his place tonight before i decide so even if i only play for the sake of hitting the level cap and a bit of WvW (that does look pretty fun even though im not overly interested in pvp) then that money is well spent :)

You can do WvW at low levels. Some classes scale better than others at low level. The "battlegrounds"? Can do those at level 1. You go to a zone and are level capped with best possible gear. You just choose what stats you use. Awesome looking pvp skins are progression/drops.

To be honest? I wish WoW did this. Gear shouldn't matter in pvp. Would also help solve the rampant botting in WoW pvp as well.

That interests me actually.. i hate pvp with gear dependency that drives me insane! Guild wars is sounding better and better lol
