So i bought a copy of windows 8 pro a while back intending to use it as my primary OS for my new build to be finished in early august. with all the problems floating around with windows 8 is it a good idea to look for a copy of 7 pro and sell the 8 pro? i have no experience with 8 at all but i would be using it on a multi monitor gaming rig. Thoughts from you guys?

TBH, it's all about personal opinion. I personally don't like Windows 8 much, and will probably use 7 for the next couple of years.

But I know that there's tons of people on this forum that love Windows 8.

It's personal preference but I advise users to wait until Win8 matures some more.

8 because if you dont like it you can just use start is back.

I hate 8 as it is but with start is back its like a better 7

what does start is back actually do? i mean does it disable modern UI or is it just a start button? and is it really the same as the windows 7 start button?

i used windows 8 on my kids laptop(preinstalled) and i hate it i bought a laptop not a tablet, and i hate the extra steps to get to a usable control pannel, and tht i have to install classic shell. so far i have had absolutly no issues with windows 7 other than ones  that my wife caused lol(doesnt believe viruses exist and that firewalls are anoying and useless). if it wasnt for no ssd support i would probably stayed with vista. i still use vista  with out issues on my older core2 dell(got it from a customer that thought it was broken. and suprisingly it survived 2 rainstorms on the side of his house only a little rust on the dvi ports but other wise runs and looks like newish)

I use Win8 with start is back and i love it. In my opinion i believe you should just get Win8 since it is the latest from Microsoft so they will have more support for it in the long run.

I love windows 7 and 8 but In general I break it down to, If you want to get a touchscreen monitor, get windows 8. If you dont want to use a touchscreen monitor, get windows 7.
I think touchscreens are a great idea for smartphones and tablets (obviously) and they work pretty well in laptops. But It will be interesting to see what argument they will make for it being user friendly in a desktop situation.

I sit fairly close to my desktop monitor so I think I could see using a touchscreen monitor (although there arent any affordable ~22" 1080p monitors still) But I know thats not the case for everyone.
I think WiDi and wireless displays (or the ability to use a tablet as a display for a desktop over WiDi) will be what it will take for desktops to have reason to run windows 8. Unless they bring the old interface back to windows 8 for people who arent using touchscreens, then sure go ahead and get windows 8 for your desktop. I mean, why not? It runs a tiny bit better and has the same UI.

They are many treads on the forum just like this one, and the answer at the end, is an obvious, get Win8.

Only get Win7, if you don't feel like learning something new, and you want to stay in your comfortable bubble. But be warned, things won't change. SO you'll have ot learn the new layout of Windows 8. The learning curve is quite high for Windows 8 compared to previous version of Windows.. waiting for Windows 9 will probably be left in the dust, like many users that decided to skip Vista, and even Win7, in favor of XP.

If you go with Win8, and you installed it, came back on the forum, and we will help you set it up, to give you a good hand on how to get started with Win8, understanding the concept and idea behind the new Start Screen, and be more productive than before, especially once you get used to it. From what I can see on the forum, more and more people prefer Windows 8. I think that now, that school is over or almost over for many, people are spending more time discovering Win8, and actually passing through the learning curve, as they are not overwhelmed by homework, exams, and finals.
