Best headphones for home usage at below £140?

I'm looking for good headphones for all around use that are comfortable for long usage as my current pair hurt after so long of wearing. 

 

I've been looking at the ATH-M50s as well as the 80 ohm beyerdynamics DT 770 as they are all around the price range I'm looking at (Below £140) and I've done a bit of research and they both seem to be really good pair of headphones. I also have a cheap microphone I bought a while ago, so I already have a mic. 

 

I mainly use my headphones for voice chat, listening to music and gaming. I do prefer if the sound was really good for music as I do enjoy good sounding music. 

 

What out of the two would you recommended or do you recommended a different pair that might better fit my usage?

ATH-M50x are the bigger brother of the M50s, with a detachable cable. MBKHD recommends them if that means anything to you.

M50x or M40x is what i'd be looking at,

 

also there is the beyerdynamic custom one pros

MBKHD raves about them alot 

 

no not bigger, same cans with better pads and removable cabling.

Aren't they the same headphones with extra features?

 

Are people not familiar with this saying?

I didn't mean bigger in the physical sense of the word, it's more of a thing people say if it's the same product just improved.

How important is traveling with the headphones? Public transport or quite places in general? Open ear headphones are best for gaming as they give you best soundstage but noise leakage is a problem for being out and about. M50's are closed ear.

I don't travel with headphones, so they will be pretty much for home usage only.

Never looked at the M50x version and they do look a lot more comfortable for long usage compared to the M50s. Will put them on my list of possible buys.  :)

With allround do you also mean portable? 
If yes definitely the M50's, if not it comes down to taste i guess, both the M50's and 770's are great headphones

I would look at a pair of open ear headphones then. Soundstage is amazing for music and games. Downside is the bass doesn't quite have the same thump as with closed ear. Maybe Sennheiser HD558?

I got the ATH-M50X and you can wear them for days on end without needing to take them off. They are also super good sounding and efficient  to drive.

I would look at a pair of open ear headphones then. Soundstage is amazing for music and games. Downside is the bass doesn't quite have the same thump as with closed ear. Maybe Sennheiser HD558?

 

I would like quite a good bit of bass in my headphones as the music I listen to is very bass heavy. Sennheisers HD558 do look pretty good but what is the sound quality like? 

 

I got the ATH-M50X and you can wear them for days on end without needing to take them off. They are also super good sounding and efficient  to drive.

 

I'm defiantly considering the ATH-M50x, they will probably be what I will buy!

If they are anything like my AudioTechnica AD700 (and they are meant to be similar), then they sound fantastic. If anything the HD558s have a bit more bass than the AD700 as well. Actually check out this thread on head-fi

 

 

I own HD 558's and I LOVE them. My favorite headphones I've heard for all around music, movies and video games. The bass is plentiful and shouldn't be something to worried about, the balance on these headphones is perfect, the bass is powerful and noticeable, but not overwhelming at all. The detail, clarity, and soundstage is the most impressive part of the headphones though, imo.

 

If you are going to use these for bass headphones, then I certainly wouldnt, I own some sz1000 that I have been using for bassy music when i'm in the mind state for it. But the HD558's aren't for groovin to subbass, theyre highly detailed and very high quality headphones which work for just about every genre I've put them through. These work fantastic with video games I might add, better than any 7.1 "surround sound" headset, it is VERY immersive because of the sound stage.

 

Also, definitely do the foam removal mod. Worth the 5-10 min it takes, imo. Improves the sound in every possible way.

 

I have the M50X and the HD 558, and using the 558, I'm not missing much bass in comparison.  They're very warm and full sounding.  The midrange is far superior on the 558.

I bought a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990 headphones for home use and couldn't be happier. They are incredibly comfortable, great soundstage and general sound quality. I would wholeheartedly recommend them over anything else for the money.

Sure, the M50X are wearable, but the Beyerdynamic s are definitely more comfortable. If you're leaning for the M50X anyways, I highly suggest you consider the M40X as a much cheaper option with very very similar sound.
