Brace yourselves, summer is coming.

So I live in an area where the climate can get up to in excess of 40C. I was looking at a few review sites were they're measuring their intake temps at around the low 20C mark...

For this reason I went ahead and bought the largest RAD I could fit in my case (Corsair H110 @ 280mm), but even so I'm getting friends with smaller RADs telling me their CPU throttles/cuts off during even the more warmish days.

I'm not too worried about the CPU temp (although I AM running a 5930K with 140W TDP) - however my GPU (EVGA gtx980 ACX 2.0) might suffer.

What kind of temperatures (intake and operating) are people getting, and with what cooling systems?

You're in America. It's fall. Now it's cold. But my Q6600 says otherwise.

I also live in Australia and instead of spending all my money on huge radiators, and high performance fans, I just bought an air conditioner instead. Like seriously AC's are so cheap these days you can buy them at Bunnings or even ebay and if you don't want to pay for someone to install it you can do it yourself, or just buy a portable air conditioner. Not only will it keep your computer cool, but it also keeps you cool.

AC is still an significant investment that brings higher monthly power bills with it. Not to mention that it means spending your summer in a closed off room to keep the cold in.

Of course this is just my opinion, I enjoy the different seasons of the year.

Even with 40 degree ambient temps, I doubt you'll be reaching the 5930K's throttling threshold. A 280mm rad is good enough for a 5930K.

I'm in a position where the room is isolated from the rest of the house - and therfor doesn't get any aircon benefit. I'm also looking at making the sysem independent of as many outside factors as possible - in the case of a summer LAN or even having to move house.
